Today, those words have become reality. Since last year, thousands of Rohingya homes have been burned to the ground, and most Rohingya landowners are barred from returning to their ancestral lands—especially in urban areas like Maungdaw and Buthidaung Townships. Social media has been flooded with video footage showing a group of armed men speaking the Rakhine language, some of whom are wearing uniforms that appear to belong to the Arakan Army (AA). The video’s content is deeply disturbing and graphic. It shows prisoners, believed to be soldiers of the Myanmar military, being slaughtered and buried alive. Rohingya refugees who recently fled to Bangladesh have recounted harrowing experiences of bombings, killings, and forced conscription by the Arakan Army (AA). A 50-year-old Rohingya woman stated, "I saw countless dead bodies." She further shared that the AA fighters stormed her house and took everything she owned. Another refugee, a Rohingya man, revealed, "The Arakan Army arrived and took young Rohingya men from the villages." 174 Rohingya Killed in a Boat Capsize Due to the unbearable persecution of the Rohingya by the Arakan Army (AA), many Rohingya from Buthidaung are fleeing in an attempt to reach Malaysia. It is no secret that the Arakan Army (AA) facilitates human trafficking, as they seem pleased when the Rohingya are forced to flee. A boat carrying 180 Rohingya from Thamee Hla village in Buthidaung capsized off the coast near Hai Gyi Island in the Ayeyarwaddy Region on November 10, 2024. The group had departed from Buthidaung on November 1, 2024. Out of the 180 passengers, 174 Rohingya died, leaving only 6 survivors (4 men and 2 women). The survivors were rescued by a foreign ship, handed over to the Myanmar Navy, and then transferred to a police station before being admitted to a hospital.
