Tributes to Indian woman freedom fighter Aruna Asaf Ali on her birth anniversary. She participated in Salt Satyagraha. She was popularly known as "Grand Old Lady of the Independence Movement". She is widely remembered for hoisting the Indian National flag at the Gowalia Tank maidan, Bombay during the Quit India Movement (1942). She started underground movement in 1942. Along with Ram Manohar Lohia, she edited Inquilab, a monthly magazine of the Congress Party. She was also member of Congress Socialist Party. She also helped form the National Federation of Indian Women (CPI) and left it later. She was elected as the first Mayor of Delhi in 1958. Along with JP Narayan, she started Link publishing house and published a daily newspaper, Patriot and a weekly, Link. She has been awarded with Padma Vibhushan, Bharat Ratna and International Lenin Peace Prize, etc.
