Hi Metages, I just saw your post about the Australian TOEFL requirements. I recently got my TOEFL results, and unfortunately, I only got 5 out of 20 points for the Australian migration points because I needed at least 26 in the Writing section. I’m now considering requesting a score review for my Writing section or switching to IELTS General. I wanted to ask if you could help me prepare for the old version of the TOEFL test. If you have the time and are willing to go back to the old TOEFL format, I would honestly prefer to be assisted by you rather than anyone else. However, Australia has a separate pathway called. 👉 TOEFL iBT Australia If you are planning to apply to Australia, especially for a Master’s or PhD, this is an important point to understand. 👇 🎓 If you are applying to Australian universities: According to official ETS information, TOEFL iBT Australia is accepted by 100% of Australian universities. But there is one very important point: University admission and student visa requirements are not exactly the same thing. Your university may accept TOEFL for admission, but after receiving your admission, you may also need to meet the English language requirements set by Australia's Department of Home Affairs for your student visa. If you want to use the same TOEFL score for your Australian visa, you need to select the Australia specific pathway when registering. During registration, you should select: 👉 “Taking TOEFL for Australia” So, if your ultimate goal is to apply for a Master’s or PhD in Australia and then use the same TOEFL score for your Student Visa, it is better to choose TOEFL iBT Australia from the beginning. ⚠️ Another very important point: For Australian visa purposes, the test must be taken at an Authorized Test Center. That means: ❌ TOEFL Home Edition is not accepted for Australian visa purposes. So, if Australia is your destination, make sure you pay close attention to the test type you select when registering. Otherwise, you may end up having to take the exam again. Of course, the minimum score requirement can vary depending on the university, program, and type of visa, so you should always check the specific requirements for both your university and your visa separately. 💼 TOEFL Australia is not only for Student Visas. Understanding this distribution pattern helps you prepare your focus before the audio even begins. 1. Conversations Get Four Types: After conversation passages, expect Factual Information (always), Inference (sometimes), Prediction (sometimes), and Suggestion (sometimes). You will never see Gist-Content or Rhetorical Purpose here. 2. Announcements Are Simpler: Announcement passages only generate two question types: Gist-Content (almost always first) and Factual Information (always). Sometimes Inference or Negative Factual, but they are rare. 3. Academic Talks Use Everything: Lectures can include all six question types, making them the most diverse. Expect Gist-Content first, followed by combinations of Inference, Rhetorical Purpose, Factual Information, and occasionally Prediction. * A. Negative Factual Is Rare: Questions with NOT or EXCEPT appear only in academic talks and are extremely uncommon. B. Frequency Guides Your Prep: Factual Information appears in every passage type and should dominate your practice. Inference appears sometimes in conversations and lectures. Hi Metages, I have been struggling for quite a while to meet the Toefl requirements for my pharmacist certification. I took the exam last Saturday, August 15, and I finally received my results. I got 100 overall (5.0), with 5.0 in reading, listening, and speaking, and 5.5 in writing. I’m really relieved to have made it this far and I appreciate all your help and support. Dear Teacher Metages Mesfin, I am really sorry that my result wasn’t as you expected especially after all the time, effort, and support you gave me throughout my exam preparation. I really appreciate everything you taught me and all the help you gave me. Thankfully, my university requires only an overall score of 90, so my 100 is enough for the requirement. I recently took the new toefl test on August 12 at an official test center and I wanted to share my experience for anyone preparing for the revised format. As a native French speaker, taking high stakes exam in English is already a challenge and my severe test anxiety usually makes things even harder. Preparing thoroughly made all the difference and I want to express my deepest gratitude to @Meti_2323 Metages Mesfin for his incredible classes and study materials. His guidance gave me the structure and confidence I needed to handle the test with a much clearer mind. The new format went smoothly overall, though each section brought its own challenges. In the reading section, tasks like completing words felt manageable, but a few passage questions had very close choices where using the process of elimination to cross out wrong options was essential. For listening, the difficulty was moderate and taking concise notes was key to keeping track of details. When it came to writing, practicing core sentence patterns for tasks like sentence building, email writing and academic discussion helped me write naturally without relying on rigid templates. The build a sentence task was actually one of the tasks where I could clearly feel the benefit of practice, because some of the sentences required me to quickly recognize the correct word order and grammatical structure rather than simply depend on vocabulary. In the speaking section, writing down the first letter of each word as I listened helped me handle the listen and repeat tasks easily, even for longer sentences with 11 to 13 words. Unfortunately, my anxiety spiked during the interview section when I got an unfamiliar topic, which threw off my fluency. My biggest takeaway for anyone taking the test is to stay calm and focus completely on the section you are working on. Dwelling on previous sections only steals your energy, so take a deep breath and keep moving forward.
