| 4 |  The power is back on and we are so grateful! Apparently the storm that blew through Saturday evening had wind gusts of 70 mph. Knocked out power for about 25% in the county and initial reports indicated some pockets would not get power back until Thursday. In this heat? Just yikes!
Hopefully I will write soon about our observations during this latest outage.
But, first... The twins start college tomorrow. Twice a week they will attend in person and they each have one course online. Ironically, my son's online course is about communication 🙃
We're also preparing for our youngest's birthday next week. It's a big one as she now steps into the double digits.
Life is good. God is gooder.

We are attempting to finish getting our ducks in a row. Kinda. Sorta. Mostly. Sometimes. *sigh*
Me? I am taking care of our neighbor's dog -who I love. But, it's three hundred million thousand degrees outside and walking back and forth four times a day makes me all melty.
And a tad cranky.
But, I am reading a book with Gaining Ground while I hangout with her so there's that.
This reading adventure finds us following the antics from those of Nottingham and Sherwood Forest fame. Join us for some hilarity. And Middle English if thou dost like that. | 917 |

| 10 | Back in July I checked out a little boutique shop while the twins were getting their hair done. As I browsed, some candles caught my eye. I was amazed that the owner felt it was safe enough to light candles throughout the store. I studied the candles, intrigued. Then I realized that these were "flameless candles."
I've heard of these, even own a few. But, not like these candles. I asked the owner about it. The particular ones I liked were 50% off. I paid for one, left, immediately turned around, and got a second one, the last one they had.
"That's nice, Kris, but you know, funky stuff happening in the world."
Yeah, I know. I hesitated sharing. But —the power went out Wednesday evening and one of the lanterns we use went kaput. We had a backup one (we have multiple backups) and some other options.
For giggles, I flipped the candle to on and... Wow! It lights up an area well. I turned the other candle on and set it in the entry/main thoroughfare.
We are quite impressed!
It's not super bright, so you won't be working on your embroidery or looking through your coinage stash for rare coins.
However, in a pinch these battery-operated flameless candles hold their own.
I think what sets this apart from other flameless candles is that the hand-poured wax is in a clear glass —it's not just a pillar.
The particular brand I got (Radiance) has been somewhat difficult to track down online. A few interwebby stores list them for much more than the other brands you can find elsewhere.

| 14 | Yes, Comedy Wednesday is being posted early. It must be. When I have to get up early, I require a lot of downtime because it takes hours (hours I tell ya!) for my brain to shutdown. I'm not a fan.
Why rise early? Because the twins have their college orientation.
College.
Me, taking them to the college campus. Me. The girl who still feels like she's too young to have college-attending kids. The girl who has the sense of humor of a middle schooler. The girl who would rather wear PJs all day than get dressed to leave the house.
Going with them to the orientation is... Exciting, but still boring. Not the good kind of boring. The, "Why do I have to behave like the adult who knows what they're doing again?" kind of boring.
Of course, it's all good. I'm happy (truly) to be stepping into this kind of season.
But, I'm also grieving. It's not easy watching your babies fledge after all.
I'll lament for a bit. Then laugh. So please post the memes to help me smile in between the tears.
