What does the Ramayaṇa stand for? THE WORD ‘Rāmāyaṇa’ can be split as ‘rāmasya ayanam’ – the journey of Rāma; it refers to the physical, emotional, and spiritual journey of Śrī-Rāma. The poet has also called the epic ‘Sītāyāścaritam’ – the story of Sītā, and ‘Paulastya-vadham’ – the slaying of Rāvaṇa. The journey of Rāma is the story of Sītā; the epic captures their extraordinary life as an ideal couple. Rāvaṇa’s interference disrupts their life, their journey and their story. Maharshi Valmiki points out in a splendid manner how the wicked deeds of an individual can have cascading effects on innumerable families and an entire kingdom. -- Please do take the time out to read this truly brilliant essay capturing the various nuances of the Ramayana. 🙏🕉🛕🪔 https://www.dharmadispatch.in/culture/what-does-the-ramaya%E1%B9%87a-stand-for

How to Understand the Wholesome Essence of the Ramayana Srimad Ramayana is an immortal work of poetry imbued with great artistry. It is not a treatise on history, geography, anthropology, flora and fauna although these elements occur profusely in the epic. Birds and monkeys, which are sometimes considered beings ‘lower’ than humans were able to understand a woman’s agony much better than the super-human rākṣasa; they even worked towards soothing the agony of Rāma and Sītā and contributed towards establishing dharma. Moreover, the epic suggests that all forces of nature join hands with the dhārmic person, but even one’s own brother abandons an adhārmic person. We must gather this kind of message from characters and events of the epic and not bother ourselves with their biological reality or historical accuracy. -- Do read this superlative essay in full and share widely! 🙏🕉🛕🪔 https://www.dharmadispatch.in/culture/how-to-understand-the-wholesome-essence-of-the-ramayana

The Transformation of Valmiki Births the Universal Epic Ramayana The transformation of Valmiki from a robber to a Rishi-Kavi is profoundly symbolic. It shows the graduation of Vālmīki from selfish activities to the selfless realm of composing a poem that can help realise universal values. The anthill symbolises the deep internal journey that the sage went into before composing the epic. In the Sanskrit language, the anthill (Valmika) is also referred to as bhuvaḥ-śravas, i.e., the ear of the earth. It is composed of fine particles of soil dug out of the earth. -- This is a really wonderful essay. Please read and share it with everyone who values Indian culture and literature. 🙏🕉🛕🪔 https://www.dharmadispatch.in/culture/the-transformation-of-valmiki-births-the-universal-epic-ramayana

From Visvesvarayya to Siddaramaiah: A Brief History of Destruction Commentary on Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's ominous bill mandating reservations for Kannadigas in private sector jobs. While the bill has been withdrawn, it only reinforces Siddaramaiah's legacy of implementing extreme Left policies of communalism and freebies. The two chief ministerial terms of Siddaramaiah show that he is perhaps the only chief minister of Karnataka whose policies are directly derived from a 1960s Communist user manual. --- Read the whole powerful piece! 📑😀🙏 https://www.dharmadispatch.in/commentary/from-visvesvarayya-to-siddaramaiah-a-brief-history-of-destruction

Srimad Ramayana: The First Poem. Maharshi Valmiki: The First Poet THE RĀMĀYAṆA STANDS as a timeless testimony to the fact that human language does not merely have a utilitarian purpose but can also be used for artistic purposes. The Rāmāyaṇa paved a hitherto untrodden and unrealised path – the path of artistic charm, where everything worldly is sublimated to the spiritual. The Ramayana tells us that the first poetic verse emerged naturally from Sage Vālmīki’s mouth when he was emotionally driven and dhārmically inspired. Right at the beginning of the epic, we see that Sage Vālmīki is on a quest after perfection. -- Do read this profound essay! 📑🙏🕉🛕🪔 https://www.dharmadispatch.in/culture/srimad-ramayana-the-first-poem-maharshi-valmiki-the-first-poet

The Essential Ramayana: An Introduction This is the introductory episode of a series exploring the various nuances of Maharshi Valmiki's immortal epic, Srimad Ramayana. It is part of the Prologue written by scholar and researcher, Sri Arjun Bharadwaj's latest work titled The Essential Ramayana. Here is an alarming but truthful note from the introduction. If an adult in India needs to be formally introduced to the Rāmāyaṇa and the Mahābhārata, it is a sorry state of affairs. I hope this situation never arises. --- Do read the whole piece!🙏🕉🛕📑🪔 https://www.dharmadispatch.in/culture/the-essential-ramayana-an-introduction
