If something is a quick fix, it's a quick and easy, but usually short-term, solution to a problem. Examples: Tania wants to lose weight, but she wants a quick fix like taking a pill instead of eating better and exercising more. I can tie your car's exhaust pipe up with a bit of wire, but it's just a quick fix. You'll have to get it fixed properly as soon as possible.

If you move out, you leave the place in which you've been living or working, and move to a new place to live or work. If you want to tell someone quite forcefully to mind their own business, you can tell them to butt out. If you keep your nose clean, you stay out of trouble by making sure you don't do anything wrong. Examples: Our son Michael is in trouble with the police again. It's important for sport's stars to keep their noses clean because they make a lot of money for endorsing products, and they could lose this income if they got into trouble with the law.

They're being charged now even though they committed their crimes over ten years ago.

If you insist on something, you say that you must have it or it must be done. Examples: insist on sth We used to sell on credit, but after not being paid a few times we now insist on payment in advance. insist on doing sth Our youngest son insists on putting tomato sauce on just about everything he eats.

a vegetarian Examples: Two of our dinner party guests are veggies, so we'll have to make some non-meat dishes for them. Helen says the latest evidence shows that people who don't eat meat, or eat very little meat, usually live longer and healthier lives, so she's thinking of becoming a veggy.

Apparently he didn't know what "XYZ" means.

If something grows on you, you gradually start to like it, even though you didn't like it much at first. a lower-class white person from a rural background Examples: We were driving through Alabama when we saw some rednecks riding in the back of a pick-up truck drinking whiskey from a bottle. If it wasn't for the redneck vote, the Republicans wouldn't have won the election.

a person who's annoying because they try to show how clever and knowledgeable they are (n.) | having an annoying way of trying to seem clever (adj.)
