*Suprabhatam* *Perunna Sri Subrahmanya Swami Temple* Sri Subrahmanya Swami Temple located at Perunna, Changanasserry is a 1200 year old renowned temple in Kerala dedicated to Lord Subrahmanya. This temple is famous for its 'Pallivetta' utsav. This is the only temple where Subrahmanya Swami or Lord Murugan is seen in furious form. The idol of Lord Subrahmanya is five feet tall made in black stone and is consecrated on a lotus platform. In the temple, the furious form of Subrahmanya Swami is worshipped. The Vel is pointed downwards. Subrahmanya Swamy is worshipped here in the form of Devasenapathi, the supreme general of the holy forces. The deity is in an angry and furious mood as he had just killed demon Tarakasuran. He faces east as seen in most of the temples. *Temple Story* In a village called Uppizhi in Kerala there was a great Subrahmanya devotee called Kumaran Namboodiri. Like all other Keralaites he was a great devotee of Palani Murugan. Once when he visited the Palani temple, it seems he felt home sick. It seems Lord Muruga came in his dream and told him that “You can find my idol in the river Koduthurai. You recover that and consecrate it in Perunna”. Kumarab Namboodiri obeyed the order of God and the Perunna temple was established. The idiol was consecrated in the year 753 AD in the tenth day of Meenam month. It seems that as soon as the idol was consecrated, it was completely covered in Sun light. Every year this day is celebrated as the Consecration day . Every year the same miracle of Sun covering the statue happens. Five Edangazhi(A measure of Kerala) rice is cooked every day and is offered to the Lord. Tuesday is considered as a special day to worship God here. The God is worshipped five times a day. Karthigai festival, Thai poosam , Skanda Sashti , Sura Samharam etc are celebrated in this temple. During Kartigai festival which is celebrated for thirteen days. The God is anointed with milk every day. *Manoj Inamdar*

*Suprabhatam* *Hulukudi Betta Sri Veerabhadra Temple* Sri Veerabhadra temple is located on Hulukudi Betta near Doddaballapura in Karnataka.Hulukudi hill has a fort, a Cave Temple and a small pond. The temple is inside a cave, now a small stone wall is build around it. The entrance of the temple is just 2 ft tall. There is very old statue of Lord Veerabadra, black in color, placed inside the temple. Veerabhadra Swamy, is a deity regarded as an aspect of Lord Shiva. He is believed to be Shiva himself in a ferocious form and is also held as a Shiva Gana, the commander of Shiva. Generally, a valiant hero is referred to as ‘Veera,’ while ‘Bhadra’ means a friend. Shiva is said to have taken this fearful form to destroy the fire sacrifice of Daksha Prajapati and quell his arrogance. There are two temples at the top one dedicated to Lord Shiva which was developed by Chola Kings in the 11 to 13th century period along with the fortifications. The other temple which is dedicated to Lord Veerabhadra is even older than the one developed in 11th to 13th centuries. *History* Although there are several mythological stories attached to this place, there is something mysterious about this place too. It is said that this hill is the place is of God Nataraj, incarnation od Lord Shiva. According to one of the legends it is believed that Lord Veerabhadra and Lord Narasimha both wanted this location and had a conflict in which Lord Veerabhadra had the upper hand and claimed this location for himself. As Lord Veerabhadra took this place, Lord Narasimha took another place that is now in Andhra Pradesh. Since then Lord Veerabhadra is prayed in this hills. This deity remains to be the principal God of the Veerashaivas, the aggressive Shaivites and is much revered in the state of Karnataka. Worshipping or offering special Pooja to Veerabhadra Swamy on all festival days can appease him and get your desires fulfilled. *Manoj Inamdar*
