To calculate above factor, you need to know the maximum amount of gas flowrate. It would be the normal operation flowrate times a surging margin based on following chart
#Separator_sizing
based on
#Shell_DEP
Here I give you a summary of liq./vap. sizing based on Shell design practice:
Vertical separator VS. Horizontal separator:
Vertical separator advantages:
- Smaller footprint and vessel volume
- Easier solid removal
-Separation efficiency is insensitice to liquid level
Horizontal separator is used if:
-Large liq. slugs have to be handled
-Space is limited for vertical vessel head
-Low liquid velocity is required
Sizing steps:
1- Choose the right separator for your application
2-Size it (Diameter, Length/Height and level controls, etc.)
To select proper separator, follow this instruction:
1- Calculate VOLUMETRIC GAS LOAD FACTOR
2- Calculate FLOW PARAMETER
3-Calculate SEPARATION EFFICIENCY
4-Use comparison table to compare different kind of separator and choose the one fitting your applications and demands
