While many people are occupied with following the World Cup of 2026, there are students of knowledge spending days and nights attending a complete reading and commentary on Imam Malik's al-Muwatta' in Riyadh, one of the most important hadith compilations in history. The program is being broadcast online, and can be watched live.

These are not just readings, the Shaykhs leading the program provide some comments and points of benefit for the hadiths read.

Right now there are several hadith book readings happening live online, which you can follow from YouTube. The reading of the entirety of the Muwatta' of Imam Malik started a few days ago, and is still ongoing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLLBPoqS2J8

"Secularism was simply, even ingenuously, merely re-enacting the established pattern of a new universal religious project. It had simply come to recognise its own salvific qualities and thus it was only reasonable that it supersedes the primitive paradigms of religion in the public sphere. Secularism was the new dispensation brought for the salvation of humanity, and it was for humanity’s own good that it be accepted in one ideological form or another... This was, in many ways, a masterstroke of self-legitimation, for it cleared away all the traditional competitors for authority in the public realm. By masking itself as transcending religion, Secularism has arguably found a means of legitimising itself that has proven remarkably effective. It has called for religion to be largely removed from public life except in a symbolic or vestigial form. In doing so, it has rendered the public sphere a realm over which it exercises a monopoly of legitimate force. ...there is a deep contradiction at the heart of Secularism as it currently stands, namely that it upholds the principle of separating religion from state, or in more recent articulations, that it is embodied in the state’s neutrality between or equidistance from all religious traditions. Yet, if Secularism is indeed itself a religion, then the claim that the secular state is separate from religion breaks down. How can the secular state be neutral between religions if it is governed by the rules of one particular religion, namely Secularism?" - Dr. Usaama al-Azami

I have mentioned in the past to a few people that he is capable of engaging with some depth, but his methodology does not really represent the early or later Hadith scholars, often winging rules on the spot. He is more like a random Usuli with rigid mathematical rules that he projects onto Hadith criticism, ultimately failing to grasp the fluidity and inherent nuances associated with Hadith transmission and criticism. It is an appreciable attempt at Hadith scholarship that ultimately falls short of a proper consolidation of the discipline’s foundations, leaving much to be desired.

People need to chill with these claims like "global celebrated" and "world authority". Read other books on matn criticism, and you will then - through comparison - see what Dr. al-Idlibi's book misses and where it is faulty.

Shaykh al-Idlibi is a really kind person (I have had the pleasure of seeing him in person more than once), but these types of claims like "globally celebrated" are pure exaggerations. Shaykh al-Idlibi has played a valuable role in the science of hadith and has written useful books in mustalah, but his book on matn criticism (Manhaj Naqd al-Matn) is NOT a work that has received universal acclaim. Shaykh Nabil Bilhi, who is perhaps one of the the greatest experts in the field of matn criticism, has quite harshly criticized al-Idlibi's book for its faulty foundations, and has shown that its arguments can actually inadvertently serve the cause of hadith rejectors and orientalists.

The level of "Othering" that supporters of the Syrian government and supporters of the Taliban government in Afghanistan engage in is depressingly high. Many supporters of the Syrian government fully back any type of liberalization - or full-blown Westernization - efforts tolerated by the Sharaa government, saying that this is needed so the country does not follow the path of Afghanistan. Many supporters of the Taliban support any unjust restrictions or arbitrary laws made by the Afghan authorities on the pretext that without these laws, the country will end up taking the increasingly concessionary path of Syria. The sad irony is that without realizing it, every side is further hardening the position of their counterpart and making them believe they are on the right path.

Reading a book is like having a conversation. The author is the speaker, and you are the listener. If, in a real conversation, you are absent-minded, or your thoughts are constantly being pulled elsewhere, you will find yourself having to politely ask the person to repeat himself again and again, because you keep zoning out. Reading is no different. If you are reading a book and you cannot understand a particular point, do not be too quick to pin that lack of understanding on your intelligence, nor be too quick to call the writing incoherent or convoluted, especially if you are reading while your mind is being pulled in different directions, or while you are allowing it to wander. In simple terms, this is called focus. I know that sounds obvious but as always, much of what is obvious still needs to be said, because what is obvious is not always observed. So if you are reading and a paragraph does not make sense, then yes, perhaps the paragraph is weak. Perhaps it is unclear. But perhaps you simply need to ask the author to “repeat himself” by reading it once or twice more. Very often, it then begins to make sense. This is also why, when we return to revise a topic, it suddenly feels clearer. Nothing magical happened. The topic did not change. The words did not change. You simply returned to them with the attention they required from you the first time. Of course, different books demand different levels of attention. A novel, a history book, a book of fiqh, a work of philosophy, and a dense theological text are not all read with the same weight of mind. But I leave that to the reader’s own judgement. I am only speaking here about the bare minimum required for any sustained reading, no matter the topic: enough presence of mind to actually hear what is being said.

Ibn Taymiyyah participated and fought in the sixth battle against the Mongols (The Battle of Marj al-Saffar, 1303), under the banner of the Mamluk Sultan Nasir al-Qalawun. Because this battle occurred in Ramadan, he ordered the soldiers and combatants to break their fast so they had enough energy to engage with the Mongols. Before the battle began, he swore by Allah's name that the Muslims would emerge victorious. They scored a decisive victory and routed the Mongol forces of Qazan.

How to know someone is not going to bring actual tajdid 1- Their take on tajdid is a tajdid that destroys what the past ulama have done not one that builds on it 2- They always talk about tajdid
