🧠 What is DNS??
Why do A, AAAA, MX, TXT, CNAME, and other DNS records even exist? Why can't one record type do everything?Let's break it down. 🌐 Why are A and AAAA Records Different? The answer is simple: they store different types of IP addresses. A Record → Stores an IPv4 address.
example.com → 192.168.1.10AAAA Record → Stores an IPv6 address.
example.com → 2001:db8::10IPv4 is 32 bits, while IPv6 is 128 bits. Because their formats are completely different, the DNS protocol defines different record types instead of mixing them into one. Imagine trying to store a phone number and an email address in the same field—it would become confusing. DNS avoids this by giving every piece of information its own record type. 🔍 How do
dig, nslookup, and host work?
These tools DO NOT store DNS records.
Their job is only to ask DNS servers questions.
For example:
dig google.com Ameans:
"DNS server, can you give me the A record for google.com?"Likewise,
dig google.com MXasks for the mail server, and
dig google.com TXTasks for TXT records. These tools are simply DNS clients. 💾 Who Stores DNS Records? DNS records are stored on authoritative DNS servers. Administrators create them using DNS management software such as: BIND Microsoft DNS PowerDNS Cloudflare DNS Route53 cPanel Web hosting control panels These systems save records inside a DNS zone/database. 🤔 How Does DNS Know a Record is A, MX, TXT or CNAME? Every DNS record has a Type field defined by the DNS protocol (RFCs). For example:
example.com IN A 93.184.216.34 example.com IN AAAA 2606:2800:220:1:248:1893:25c8:1946 example.com IN MX 10 mail.example.com www IN CNAME example.com example.com IN TXT "v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all"Notice something? The record itself explicitly declares its own type: A AAAA MX TXT CNAME So the DNS server doesn't "guess" what the record is. The administrator (or DNS software/API) specifies the type when creating it, and the server stores it exactly that way. ⚙️ The Complete Flow
Administrator
│
▼
Creates DNS Record
│
▼
Authoritative DNS Server
(BIND, Cloudflare, Route53...)
│
▼
Record stored with its TYPE
(A, AAAA, MX, TXT...)
│
▼
Client uses dig/nslookup/host
│
▼
DNS Server returns only the requested record type
✅ dig, host, and nslookup only query DNS.
✅ DNS servers store records.
✅ Every DNS record contains a predefined Type field.
✅ A and AAAA are separate because IPv4 and IPv6 are completely different address formats.
Understanding why DNS was designed this way is far more valuable than memorizing commands.
Happy hacking! 🚀 Abugida security

| 6 | ✅ Event Recap: Anatomy of a C2 Framework
🔥 What an amazing session!
Today we attended the "Anatomy of a C2 Framework" live class by TryHackMe, and it was packed with valuable knowledge for anyone interested in Red Teaming and Offensive Security.
📚 What we learned:
🛠️ What a Command & Control (C2) Framework is.
🎯 How C2 frameworks are used in Red Team operations.
⚙️ Key components of a C2:
Payloads & Agents
Communication Channels
Traffic Profiles
Source Code & Extensibility
🔍 How to evaluate and choose the right C2 framework.
💡 Why understanding your C2 is more important than simply using the one with the most features.
"The best C2 is the one that fits the operation—and the one you actually understand."
Thank you to TryHackMe and the presenter for the excellent session.
It was an insightful introduction to how professional C2 frameworks work in authorized security testing.
Stay tuned and keep learning! 🔐💻
