Thought Police Yesterday, Jimbo and I were found guilty of returning to the Shrine of Remembrance after being directed to move on. We attended a Last Post service with members of our organisation to pay our respects. We carried no flags, banners, or protest materials, nor did we have equipment of any kind. Although we initially obeyed the police direction, we sought clarification after reading the Shrine of Remembrance Act offsite. When we returned entering only the reserve and not the inner shrine to request to speak with the police, we were promptly arrested. We were then held in custody until we were brought before a judge to seek bail. The most alarming part of this case is that the judge declared the police officer in charge had the right to eject us because he disliked our political beliefs, rather than due to our conduct or behaviour on the day. This sets a precedent: if you hold the "wrong" thoughts, the police have every right to remove you from public spaces.
