it is unexpectedly romantic as well

i just watched everything everywhere all at once and visuals are stunning. the lighting, the costumes, the editing, the soundtrack, the performances, the humor is all great. it's one of those films where i genuinely want to watch a documentary about how it was made because the production itself is fascinating. every few minutes the film throws something at you that makes you go wtf? because multiverse lol. it's built around this idea of positive nihilism that if nothing inherently matters, then kindness, love, and the people we choose become what gives life meaning. it's a beautiful message and i really appreciated it. that said, while i admired the film immensely, i don't think i connected with it in a very life changing. i wasn't crying my eyes out or thinking it was one of the greatest films i've ever seen. but calling it average would be completely idiotic. it's wildly creative, ambitious, emotionally sincere, and unlike almost anything else i've watched. for me it's a solid four stars.

people are trying to buy whimsy but whimsy isn't something you can order online. it isn't a dress or mug or a room full of curated trinkets. whimsy is a way of moving through the world. it's finding magic in ordinary things. it's creating with whatever you already have. the irony is that the more you try to purchase an identity, the further away you get from having one.
