ETHIOPIA ONCHAIN | DAY 5/7 WHAT IF ETHIOPIAN ASSETS COULD MOVE ONCHAIN? An asset does not have to become digital just because it exists on a blockchain. But blockchain can change how ownership, transfer, financing, and settlement are coordinated. This is where tokenization comes in. Real world assets such as commodities, invoices, securities, and other forms of value can potentially be represented as digital tokens and transferred through programmable infrastructure. For Ethiopia, the bigger opportunity is connecting the country’s real economy with digital capital markets. Imagine infrastructure where ownership can be represented digitally, transactions can settle automatically, and financial applications can interact with tokenized assets through shared blockchain rails. That could create new models for capital formation, liquidity, financing, and investment. Tokenization is not about putting everything onchain. It is about creating new financial infrastructure for assets that already exist in the real world. And Ethiopia has a real economy worth bringing onchain. 🇪🇹 #EthiopiaOnchain #EBW2026 #BlockchainEthiopia #Web3Ethiopia

ETHIOPIA ONCHAIN | DAY 4/7 DIGITAL IDENTITY COULD BECOME A NEW BUILDING BLOCK FOR THE ONCHAIN ECONOMY As Ethiopia builds its digital infrastructure, identity becomes more than proving who you are. It becomes a way to securely access financial services, verify ownership, authorize transactions, and interact with digital systems. Blockchain can add another layer to this model through verifiable credentials and decentralized verification, allowing people and organizations to prove specific information without repeatedly sharing everything about themselves. Imagine a future where a verified identity can interact with financial institutions, marketplaces, government services, and onchain applications through interoperable digital infrastructure. For Ethiopia, the opportunity is not simply putting identity on a blockchain. It is building trusted digital infrastructure that can connect people to more services, more markets, and more opportunities. Identity is the foundation. What we build on top of it could shape Ethiopia’s digital economy. 🇪🇹 #EthiopiaOnchain #EBW2026 #BlockchainEthiopia #Web3Ethiopia

ETHIOPIA CUTS BITCOIN MINING POWER BY 75% AMID HYDRO ELECTRICITY SHORTAGE State utility Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) has drastically reduced electricity delivered to data and Bitcoin mining operations by 75%. Declining water levels into hydroelectric reservoirs driven by severe dry conditions have forced the grid operator to cut supply down to just ~23% of contracted volumes. The decision reflects a sharp shift in national energy allocation priorities. Although data mining became EEP's largest single revenue generator over the past fiscal year, the state utility announced that domestic household access and industrial manufacturing take primary priority over energy exports and high-density compute clients. EEP plans to reassess reservoir water levels in October before deciding whether to adjust mining power allocations or further limit regional energy exports.

ETHIOPIA ONCHAIN | DAY 3/7 BLOCKCHAIN COULD CHANGE HOW ETHIOPIA TRADES WITH THE WORLD Ethiopia exports products to global markets, but the journey from producer to buyer can involve multiple intermediaries, documents, payment processes, and disconnected systems. Blockchain introduces a different approach. A shared ledger can record the movement of goods across a supply chain, while smart contracts and tokenized assets can connect provenance, payments, financing, and settlement on programmable infrastructure. Take Ethiopian coffee. A buyer in another country could potentially verify where coffee came from, track its movement through the supply chain, and settle payment through digital rails without relying on every participant maintaining a separate version of the record. For Ethiopia, the opportunity goes beyond tracking products. It is about making trade more transparent, programmable, and connected to global markets. The next generation of Ethiopian exports may not just move through physical supply chains. They could move with digital infrastructure built around them. 🇪🇹 #EthiopiaOnchain #EBW2026 #BlockchainEthiopia #Web3Ethiopia

ETHIOPIA ONCHAIN | DAY 2/7 BANKING IS MOVING FROM ACCOUNTS TO NETWORKS Traditional cross border banking still depends heavily on correspondent banks, settlement windows, and pre funded Nostro and Vostro accounts. That means institutions often need liquidity sitting in different places before a payment can even move. Onchain settlement changes the model. Tokenized deposits and stablecoins can allow value to move across blockchain networks 24/7, while smart contracts can automate parts of settlement, reconciliation, and compliance. For Ethiopia, this creates a bigger question. As global banks experiment with tokenized money and programmable settlement, how will Ethiopian financial institutions connect to the next generation of financial infrastructure? The opportunity is not simply to put banking on blockchain. It is to build faster, more connected financial rails for Ethiopia and the region. #EthiopiaOnchain #EBW2026 #BlockchainEthiopia #Web3Ethiopia

🇪🇹ETHIOPIA ONCHAIN | DAY 1/7 Over the next seven days, we’re looking beyond the hype and exploring what blockchain could actually mean for Ethiopia. From money and banking to trade, digital identity, tokenized assets, and the developers building the infrastructure, we’ll examine how public blockchain rails could connect with the real economy. No speculation. No empty buzzwords. Just real systems, real opportunities, and the infrastructure that could shape Ethiopia’s digital future. ETHIOPIA ONCHAIN starts today. DAY 1 | MONEY WHAT HAPPENS WHEN MONEY MOVES 24/7? For decades, moving money across borders has meant navigating banking hours, correspondent banks, pre funded accounts, and multiple settlement layers. Blockchain changes the architecture. Stablecoins and onchain settlement can allow value to move 24/7, globally, with programmable rules built directly into the transaction layer. For Ethiopia, this matters. A more connected onchain financial system could reshape how people and businesses think about remittances, cross border payments, liquidity, and access to global markets. The technology is already moving. The opportunity is understanding where Ethiopia fits into it. #EthiopiaOnchain #EBW2026 #BlockchainEthiopia #Web3Ethiopia

ጷጉሜ 4 | WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE? Four days into Ethiopia’s 13th month, we have looked back at what was built and the people behind it. Now, we look forward. Ethiopia’s blockchain ecosystem is still at an early stage, but the opportunity ahead is enormous. More developers are entering the space. More founders are building. More institutions are paying attention. More global networks are looking toward Africa. The next chapter will not be about simply talking about blockchain. It will be about building infrastructure, creating real use cases, developing talent, and connecting Ethiopia to a global onchain economy. The question is no longer whether Ethiopia can participate. It is how far we can take it. 🇪🇹 As 2018 E.C. comes to a close, the next year is already waiting. ጷጉሜ 4 | 2018 ዓ.ም #EBW2026 #BlockchainEthiopia #Web3Ethiopia

ጷጉሜ 3 | THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE BUILD A blockchain ecosystem is not defined by its technology alone. It is defined by the people building, experimenting, learning, and pushing it forward. Across Ethiopia, developers are exploring new infrastructure. Founders are turning ideas into products. Communities are creating spaces to learn and connect. Institutions are beginning to engage with the technology. Every builder adds something to the ecosystem. Every developer who writes code. Every founder who takes a risk. Every community that brings people together. Every learner who decides to start building. This is how an ecosystem grows. As we reach the third day of ጷጉሜ, we look beyond the technology and recognize the people shaping Ethiopia’s blockchain journey. The infrastructure may be digital. The force behind it is human. 🇪🇹 ጷጉሜ 3 | 2018 ዓ.ም #EBW2026 #BlockchainEthiopia #Web3Ethiopia

ጷጉሜ 2 | WHAT DID WE BUILD? The second day of Ethiopia’s 13th month. Before we turn the page, we should look back at what was built. Across Ethiopia, developers kept shipping, communities kept growing, founders kept experimenting, and new conversations around blockchain, digital assets, tokenization, and decentralized infrastructure continued to emerge. Some ideas became products. Some experiments became real use cases. Some builders became teams. And every one of them added another piece to Ethiopia’s growing blockchain ecosystem. Because progress is not always measured by headlines. Sometimes, it is measured by the people who kept building when nobody was watching. As 2018 E.C. comes to an end, we celebrate the builders who made the year count. The year may be ending. The building continues. 🇪🇹 ጷጉሜ 2 | 2018 ዓ.ም #EBW2026 #BlockchainEthiopia #Web3Ethiopia

ጳጉሜ 1 | THE 13TH MONTH Ethiopia has something unique about the way we measure a year. 13 months. Twelve months of 30 days, followed by ጳጉሜ, five extra days that bring one Ethiopian year to a close. Today marks the beginning of that final chapter. Before we enter another year, it is worth looking back at what Ethiopia’s blockchain ecosystem has built, the communities that grew, the developers who kept building, the ideas that became projects, and the conversations that pushed the ecosystem forward. A year is not only measured by time. It is measured by what we build with it. For the next five days, we’ll reflect on where Ethiopia’s blockchain ecosystem has been, where it stands today, and where we can take it next. Five days. One year ending. A new chapter about to begin. 🇪🇹 ጳጉሜ 1 | 2018 ዓ.ም #EBW2026 #BlockchainEthiopia #Web3Ethiopia

BANKS AREN’T WAITING FOR BLOCKCHAIN. THEY’RE BUILDING ON IT. 21 major financial institutions, including Bank of America, Citi, Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank, are working toward a bank issued US dollar stablecoin targeted for 2027. Meanwhile, Swift has activated its blockchain based ledger, with 17 banks across six continents preparing to pilot tokenized deposits for 24/7 cross border payments. This is bigger than banks “adopting crypto.” It is the financial system moving toward programmable settlement. Pre funded Nostro and Vostro accounts, fragmented correspondent banking networks and limited settlement windows could increasingly give way to tokenized money moving across public and interoperable blockchain rails, 24/7. For Ethiopia and East Africa, the question is no longer whether this transition is happening.

🇪🇹 ETHIOPIAN BLOCKCHAIN WEEK IS HELPING BUILD ETHIOPIA’S BLOCKCHAIN FUTURE Blockchain in Ethiopia is growing, but ecosystems don’t grow from technology alone. They grow when people come together. That is where Ethiopian Blockchain Week comes in. EBW has become a meeting point for Ethiopia’s blockchain ecosystem, bringing together developers, founders, investors, communities, institutions, and global Web3 leaders under one platform. It creates the space for builders to connect, ideas to be shared, projects to emerge, and Ethiopia’s blockchain community to connect with the rest of the world. From hackathons and bootcamps to conferences, networking, and ecosystem building, EBW is creating opportunities for the people actually building in this space. The future of blockchain in Ethiopia will not be built by one company, one project, or one person. It will be built by an ecosystem. And Ethiopian Blockchain Week is helping bring that ecosystem together. 🇪🇹

🤝VISA AND NIUM PUSH ONCHAIN PAYMENTS INTO OVERDRIVE Global payment rails are executing a massive backend upgrade. Today, Visa partnered with Dunamu to integrate stablecoin settlement into global payment networks. Simultaneously, enterprise gateway Nium launched direct USDC funding, letting businesses hold digital dollars centrally and execute instant fiat payouts across 190 countries. This marks a permanent shift away from traditional cross-border friction. Card networks and B2B payout systems are actively eliminating pre-funded regional accounts by anchoring corporate liquidity onchain, freeing up millions in idle working capital. For Web3 platforms and regional FinTechs, the mandate is clear: the real value isn't competing with card networks on consumer UI it’s building the compliant local gateways that allow global institutions to land onchain settlement directly into local markets.

JPMORGAN AND BANK ALLIANCES TARGET NATIVE STABLECOIN LAUNCHES In a major shift for institutional payments, JPMorgan is evaluating a dedicated stablecoin launch alongside the expansion of broad commercial banking networks like the BankChain Alliance. Rather than leaving digital dollar settlement to non-bank issuers, major banking institutions are moving aggressively to build natively integrated, 24/7 payment rails for their own balance sheets. This acceleration signals a fundamental pivot in enterprise strategy: tokenized deposits and compliant stablecoins are no longer competing products, but complementary tools within a modern corporate treasury stack. By combining real-time settlement with institutional trust frameworks, banks are laying the groundwork to replace legacy wire delays with programmable cross-border rails. For FinTech innovators and enterprise builders, the writing on the wall is clear. As global banking behemoths embrace open-ledger settlement, competitive advantage belongs to platforms building compliant, low-friction integration layers that hook local market liquidity directly into this emerging multi-bank network.
