His statement follows recent airstrikes ordered by former President Trump that killed multiple Houthi leaders, reinforcing the U.S. stance on holding both the Houthis and their Iranian backers accountable.

China’s largest state oil companies are scaling back on Russian crude due to U.S. sanctions, with Sinopec and Zhenhua Oil halting purchases entirely and PetroChina and CNOOC reducing imports for March. At the same time, shipping times for Russian oil to China have surged to seven times longer than in January, further straining Moscow’s energy exports. The fallout is also hitting Gazprom, where CEO Alexei Miller has approved 1,500 job cuts at its headquarters as Russia grapples with the loss of European buyers.

Russia’s flagship media brand, Pravda, is being used to promote two New Zealand news sites — including one in te reo Māori — that experts believe resemble a disinformation campaign aimed at dividing communities. These New Zealand-focused sites are part of a global effort called “Portal Kombat,” involving over 100 country-specific internet portals. Content on the New Zealand site includes material from Russia’s state-owned Sputnik news agency, such as reports on the possible breakup of the Five Eyes intelligence alliance, which New Zealand is part of. Some posts appear to be taken from a Pasifika social media channel, portraying China as a better supporter of the Pacific than New Zealand, with statements like: “Beijing secures Pacific supply chains. New Zealand secures… Five Eyes surveillance for the CIA?” Academics told the Herald this seems to be a modern twist on classic Russian disinformation tactics designed to create division in Western countries.
