Attended by representatives from the Refugees and Returnees Service (RRS), international bodies, government entities, and refugee leaders, the event marked EFFR as the first official, registered refugee-led organization to operate in the region.
Highlights of the Launch
Strategic Partnerships: Following an opening address by Founder and Chairperson Ms. Shadya Abduljabbar and RRS representatives, the EFFR team outlined key project goals aimed at building sustainable community networks.
Field Engagement: EFFR leadership met with RRS officials and visited refugee camps to officially launch the initiative, earning high praise from refugees who hailed EFFR as "the true voice of vulnerable refugees in Ethiopia."
Women’s Empowerment & Office Opening: The event featured the distribution of "Dignity Kits" to refugee women, accompanied by traditional celebratory chants, alongside the official inauguration of EFFR's new Gambella regional office.

أديس أبابا، إثيوبيا — تشرفت مؤسسة إثيو فريندز للاجئين (EFFR) اليوم بالمشاركة في ورشة عمل رفيعة المستوى نظمتها منظمة FGEA. ونحن فخورون للغاية بأن مؤسسة إثيو فريندز للاجئين كانت المنظمة الوحيدة التي يقودها لاجئون والتي دُعيت إلى هذا الحدث الهام.
جاءت مشاركتنا في هذه الورشة نتيجة مباشرة لاكتشاف منظمة FGEA لعملنا ومبادراتنا المؤثرة على مستوى القاعدة الشعبية من خلال موقعنا الإلكتروني الرسمي. وتُعد هذه الدعوة دليلاً قوياً على تزايد حضور ومصداقية رسالة مؤسسة إثيو فريندز للاجئين على الصعيد الوطني.
جمعت الورشة نخبة من صناع القرار وأصحاب المصلحة الرئيسيين، بمن فيهم وزير الصحة، ووزير العدل، ووزيرة شؤون المرأة والشؤون الاجتماعية، وأعضاء في البرلمان، وممثلون عن المعهد الإثيوبي للصحة العامة، وممثلون عن مختلف السلطات الحكومية المحلية.
تُعد منظمة FGEA مؤسسة عريقة ذات تأثير واسع النطاق في جميع أنحاء أفريقيا. في إثيوبيا وحدها، تُنفّذ المنظمة أكثر من 20 مشروعًا واسع النطاق، بدعم من قوة عاملة متفانية قوامها 800 موظف، مستخدمةً نموذجًا مستدامًا للغاية يشمل الشركات والمدارس والمستشفيات.
خلال الجلسة، أتيحت للمنظمة الأوروبية للاجئين فرصة عرض رؤيتها وبرامجها الجارية والقيمة الفريدة للمبادرات التي يقودها اللاجئون. لاقى العرض استحسانًا كبيرًا. وقد أعربت قيادة منظمة FGEA والحضور عن تقديرهم العميق لعملنا، مشيرين إلى أنها المرة الأولى التي يشهدون فيها هذا المستوى العالي من الالتزام والتفاني والقدرة التنظيمية من منظمة إغاثة اللاجئين.
فتح هذا التعاون آفاقًا واعدة للمستقبل. وقد التزمت قيادة منظمة FGEA، بما في ذلك مدير البرامج ومدير المشروع، بزيارة المنظمة الأوروبية للاجئين في المستقبل القريب. واتفقنا على الحفاظ على تواصل وثيق لاستكشاف سبل التعاون الاستراتيجي، والاستفادة من شبكة FGEA الأفريقية الواسعة لتمكين مجتمعات اللاجئين المهمشة بشكل أكبر.
في المنظمة الأوروبية للاجئين، نلتزم بضمان سماع أصوات اللاجئين وإدماجها بفعالية في حوارات التنمية الوطنية والقارية رفيعة المستوى.

| 12 | A New Milestone in Refugee Representation: EFFR Participates in High-Level FGEA Workshop
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia — Today, the Ethio Friends Foundation for Refugees (EFFR) had the distinct honor of participating in a prestigious, high-level workshop organized by FGEA. We are incredibly proud to highlight that EFFR was the only Refugee-Led Organization (RLO) invited to this major event.
Our inclusion in this workshop was a direct result of FGEA discovering our impactful grassroots work and initiatives through our official website. This invitation serves as a powerful testament to the growing visibility and credibility of EFFR’s mission on a national scale.
The workshop brought together a remarkable assembly of key decision-makers and stakeholders, including the Minister of Health, the Minister of Justice, the Minister of Women and Social Affairs, Members of Parliament, the Ethiopian Public Health Institute, and various local government authorities.
FGEA is a monumental institution with a vast footprint across Africa. In Ethiopia alone, they implement over 20 large-scale projects supported by a dedicated workforce of 800 staff members, utilizing a highly sustainable model that includes businesses, schools, and hospitals.
During the session, EFFR had the opportunity to present our vision, ongoing programs, and the unique value of refugee-led initiatives. The presentation was met with great enthusiasm. FGEA leadership and attendees expressed profound appreciation for our work, noting that it was their first time witnessing such a high level of commitment, dedication, and organizational capacity from an RLO.
This engagement has opened the door to exciting future prospects. FGEA leadership—including their Program Director and Program Manager—have committed to visiting EFFR in the near future. We have agreed to maintain close communication to explore strategic collaborations, leveraging FGEA’s extensive African network to further empower marginalized refugee communities.
At EFFR, we remain committed to ensuring that refugee voices are not only heard but actively integrated into high-level national and continental development dialogues.

We showcased our ongoing programs and initiatives dedicated to supporting and empowering both refugees and host communities. We were absolutely thrilled to hear our guests' deep appreciation and admiration for our foundation's vision, approach, and tangible positive impact on the ground.
The crowning achievement of this successful visit was our shared commitment to continuing and deepening the close collaboration between our foundation and the DREEM program. Together, we explored new and innovative opportunities to advance refugee inclusion and achieve sustainable development.

TESFA is a Refugee-Led Organization (RLO) committed to empowering refugees with disabilities through advocacy, education, health, livelihoods, inclusion, and community development.
Although we are still in the early stages of building our organization, we have developed our governance structure, strategic plans, website, digital systems, and organizational resources entirely through the dedication of our volunteer professionals—without operational funding.
This achievement reflects our commitment, but much more remains to be done. We warmly welcome donors, development partners, NGOs, UN agencies, companies, foundations, and individuals who share our vision to support TESFA through financial contributions, grants, in-kind donations, technical assistance, capacity building, volunteer service, or strategic partnerships.
