4	+9 Unofficial Translation Press Release The Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia, wishes to inform the public as well as members of national and international media as follows: On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 09:15 AM, the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) of the Kingdom of Cambodia coordinated a visit for the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT), led by the Head of Mission of the ASEAN Observer Team (HOM AOT) from the Philippines, to observe, verify, and visit displaced civilian at Rong Jam village, Slor Kram commune, Svay Chek district, Banteay Meanchey province. The displaced civilian have not yet been able to return to their homes due to the illegal occupation of Cambodian territory by Thai military forces in certain areas, which includes the deployment of barbed wire, shipping containers, and the destruction of their houses. The ASEAN Observer Team's (AOT) observation, verification, and visit to displaced civilian who remain unable to return home underscore the absolute necessity for the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Border Commission (JBC) to launch border demarcation work as soon as possible. This alignment adheres to existing agreements, specifically point three of the Joint Statement from the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on December 27, 2025, which aims to ensure that our citizens can safely, peacefully, and with dignity return to their homes without any obstruction. The objective was to observe, verify, and report on the border situation at Chey Chomneas Border Checkpoint, Thma Da Commune, Veal Veng District, Pursat Province. This area was subjected to incursions, the installation of barbed wire, and the illegal deployment of shipping containers by the Thai military—actions that continue to prevent numerous Cambodian families from returning to their homes and also to review the compliance with, and implementation of all measures outlined in the Joint Declaration after the ceasefire came into effect. The ASEAN Observer Team’s observation of the aforementioned sovereign Cambodian territory currently under illegal Thai occupation underscores the absolute necessity for the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) to commence land demarcation work as soon as possible. This aligns with the existing framework stipulated in Point 3 of the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) dated December 27, 2025, which aims to ensure that our citizens can safely, peacefully, and with dignity return to their homes without any obstruction. Cambodia reiterates that it does not recognize any modification of the border line through the absolute use of force or unilateral territorial claims by Thailand, and underscores that the aforementioned actions shall not prejudice the legitimate rights or position of the Kingdom of Cambodia with respect to its international boundaries. The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia reaffirm our firm, sincere, and unwavering commitment to fully and faithfully respect and implement the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on December 27, 2025, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand on October 26, 2025, and all other relevant agreements.
