If you contribute to open source, Anthropic has a new program you should know about. They are offering 6 months of Claude Max for free to maintainers and active contributors. They are accepting up to 10,000 people on a rolling basis. The primary criteria are for maintainers of public repos with 5,000+ stars or 1M+ monthly NPM downloads, but they encourage anyone working on projects the ecosystem relies on to apply regardless of those specific numbers. Here’s a little side project I haven’t told you about yet. I started it recently as a small experiment and ended up vibe coding the entire app from scratch. It’s now only a few days away from being ready for its first demo. The idea is simple. a mobile platform where developers can discover each other, share projects, connect and collaborate. Instead of just following profiles, it focuses on real connections and actually building things together. One of the most interesting parts is a live map that lets you discover developers around you, see what they’re working on and message them. If someone nearby is building something interesting, you could literally reach out and say, “want to grab a coffee and talk about it?” You could think of it loosely as something like Tinder, but for developers who want to meet, share ideas and build products together. Still polishing a few things before the demo. I’ll share more very soon.

Google Releases 'Waxal' Open-Source African Speech Dataset Google has officially released the Waxal Dataset, a massive open-source collection comprising nearly 2 million speech records across key African languages including Amharic, Oromo, Tigrinya, and Swahili. Licensed under the permissive CC BY 4.0, this initiative allows startups and researchers to freely leverage the data to build and commercially deploy AI products in local tongues. Anyways, in this week I've been working adding a websocket connection feature for our selam voice agent models we will have across the 4 Ethiopian languages + English tts, including gpt-audio models into our selam api platform. Almost finishing the tts and voice agent api. Next phase will be integrating the backend with the frontend platform and finalising the databases and auth stuffs.
