hey guys I have a great idea, let's pack tray icons into a fundamentally cancerous and insecure piece of software that handles *checks notes* just about everything for some reason. Hell yeah.

... and apparently even tray icons don't work without the dbus cancer, unless you use KDE, which is arguably the only good DE.

Given the circumstances, the whole security theater about Wayland devs being afraid of applications "stealing" their keystrokes is really funny, because they made me use a system that uses a dying rat as the mailman and pretend we're all good and secure. Meanwhile I can just unlock the keyring and read every auth data and every secret that goes through every application in dbus.

Dbus is a really funny POS (piece of software) because it's like a superglue for everything, infested with security holes like a dying rat with fleas. It also brings a hard dependency on systemd and makes everything harder to port to *BSD. Anytime they (whoever is in charge of Linux Desktop) fail to implement something important, they just sweep it under dbus and pretend there is no elephant in the room. Said elephant is standing right there and drinking their toilet water. Needless to say, Wayland is heavily tied to dbus and can barely work without it, because every mechanism that Wayland devs "envisioned" but ultimately failed (or didn't even bother) to implement was swept under dbus. Screensharing, audio, pipewire, bluetooth, network manager, notifications, portals all go through dbus. That exact dying rat infested with fleas carrying bubonic plague.
