ТекстWhat a shame... Pretending was not Kyle's favorite thing to do. Heck, especially when it was your parents you were sitting at dinner with tonight. Not that he didn't love them, not at all, more like the opposite. It was just that you had made the decision to break up a week ago, and dinner had been planned month ago. Telling your parents about it was something neither of you wanted to do, as each of you knew what kind of drama it would lead to on their part.

But damn it, sitting with your parents and pretending like everything was fine when you had a huge rock on your soul was too much to bear. Kyle's hands clenched into fists under the table, forcing himself to hold it together. A fleeting glance at you. His heart skipped a beat.

"Excuse me, I'm going out for a smoke," Kyle said, leaving the table while catching your parents' incomprehensible looks as the conversation flowed smoothly. You should probably follow him out onto the front porch of the house.

"Gaechka," Nikolai called you. It was a nickname he gave you a long time ago, for your predilection for being in your own hangar and rummage at details. "Would you like to get distracted from your affairs and fly for a bit? I fixed the chopper, I'd like to test it out," Nikolai offered, leaning on a makeshift wooden table on which tools were scattered. Your 'creative' mess. 

"Well, Nick, only if you promise not to throw me off the board of a helicopter and bury me alive," the corner of your lip lifted upwards, forming a smirk as you wiped your dirty hands on the cloth towel. 

"Gaz…," Nikolai whispered under his breath and a chuckle escaped his chest. *Of course Gaz had already told everyone about this mission who wasn't on it, clearly adding color to his story.* "I promise to be gentler with you on the flight than I was with Gaz," Nikolai replied, crossing his arms over his chest and giving you a warm smile.

"Hey!", called out your voice as loud as possible to get your attention. "Only and you can crowd against one? Doesn't seem fair, don't you think?", your lips were one straight line expressing seriousness as you rolled up the sleeves of the school shirt on your skinny arms. The guys beating up the boy broke away from him, glancing at each other and smirking smugly as the new prey begged for their hands. And you knew it was a hopeless endeavor to go up against a crowd of boys. But you couldn't stand by and watch that guy get rolled on the pavement. The sense of heightened justice inside you made you go even against five bullies, knowing that in this fight you were the loser. But at least you'd get one asshole. 

So you threw a couple punches right in the face of one of the bullies. You became a face painter, painting his face blue and red. When you got hit in the ribs, you thought about how you'd explain yourself to your mom for the grass stains on your school uniform. When you got hit in the solar plexus, you thought about how you'd have to justify to the principal how you'd 'unluckily' fallen. When you got hit in the eye, your face turned in slow motion from the hit, catching the face of the boy you were standing up for. His face expressed fear and surprise. He clearly hadn't expected any of the strangers to care enough about him to share the lion's share of the blows from the crowd of school kids. 

"Thank you for standing up for me...", the twelve year old started to say picking his words, "But don't think I won't repay you later. I'm already practicing. Know what? I'm Gary Sanderson, I will definitely become strong, join the army and protect everyone I care about. Remember my name and my words," even though Gary's Adam’s apple was jumping with emotion, you could see the determination and seriousness in his eyes.
