π¦ South Korea's First Bitcoin-Backed Bank Loans Are Here
Jeonbuk Bank has quietly made history, launching South Korea's first bank-issued won loans backed by Bitcoin. Corporate clients can now pledge their BTC holdings as collateral for business financing β no selling required.
The structure keeps the bank at arm's length from the crypto itself: registered third-party custodians hold the collateral while Jeonbuk supplies the won, never taking ownership of the pledged assets. The program is currently corporate-only, with expansion contingent on regulatory shifts and market demand.
The obvious question hanging over the whole thing: what happens when BTC drops 30% overnight? The bank's collateral monitoring and valuation framework will face that test eventually.

π¨ Liquid Network Still Frozen 35 Days After 4,000 BTC Exploit
An attacker exploited a vulnerability in Liquid Network's Elements software 35 days ago, draining nearly 4,000 BTC. About 3,400 BTC has been recovered, but a ~602.53 BTC shortfall means reserves cover only 85.8% of outstanding L-BTC β and redemptions remain suspended while an independent security audit of Elements v23.3.4 runs its course.
Transfers resumed September 10, but actually getting your bitcoin out? Still not an option. For L-BTC holders, "your keys, your coins" has a new asterisk.

βΏ Bitcoin ETFs Bleed $679M in Sharp Weekly Reversal
US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $679 million in net outflows last week, with the bulk of the damage concentrated on Oct. 7β8. That two-day stretch alone drove a $920 million swing from the prior week's positive flows, flipping the two-week combined total into negative territory.
The honeymoon, it seems, has its rough patches.

π¨ COLDCARD's X Account Hijacked to Harvest Seed Phrases
A phishing post appeared on COLDCARD's official X account, directing Bitcoin users to a fake wallet-migration site designed to steal recovery phrases. The post has since been deleted.
COLDCARD found no matching login record in its own systems β suggesting the account was compromised without a conventional sign-in β and has requested an investigation from X. A researcher confirmed the fake domain was purpose-built to collect wallet seed phrases. If you saw that link and clicked through, assume your recovery phrase is compromised.

βΏ Metaplanet Sold 10K BTC β Then Bought 11K Back Higher
Metaplanet didn't panic-sell β it made a point. The Japanese Bitcoin treasury company sold 10,000 BTC and repurchased 11,000 at a higher average price, deliberately demonstrating to prospective creditors that it's willing to liquidate holdings when needed. The Oct. 5 disclosure framed the round-trip trade as a financing strategy: proving liquidity discipline is apparently the price of admission for a credit rating.
Turns out "HODL forever" isn't the pitch that wins over bond markets.

βΏ Bitcoin-Native Life Insurer Raises $37.5M from Bain Capital Crypto
A Bermuda-based life insurer that runs entirely on Bitcoin β backed by Sam Altman β has raised $37.5 million from existing investors led by Bain Capital Crypto. The round follows what the company describes as a record year, fueled by demand from wealthy families across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
Apparently "just put it in Bitcoin" is now a legitimate estate-planning strategy for the ultra-rich.

βΏ Tom Lee Refreshes His $100K BTC, $7.5K ETH Calls
Fundstrat co-founder Tom Lee reiterated his year-end targets in an Oct. 7 presentation: Bitcoin at $100,000 and Ethereum at $7,500. Lee, who also chairs Bitmine Immersion Technologies, attributed the potential upside to institutional adoption driving another extended rally.
Ambitious? Sure. But Lee has been in this rodeo before β sometimes right, sometimes early, always loud. Whether the cycle cooperates is another matter entirely.

π¨ CryptoBilis Thief Pushes 464 ETH Through Tornado Cash
A wallet tied to the CryptoBilis thefts has routed 464 ETH into Tornado Cash, using an intermediary and four deposit wallets to obscure the trail. The source address still holds roughly 700 ETH β so the laundering operation appears far from finished.

π $32M Bitcoin Short Surfaces on Hyperliquid
A whale on Hyperliquid is running a $32.36 million Bitcoin short, backed by $7.19 million in equity via a single perpetual futures position. The timing is pointed β it lands exactly one year after the "10/10 crash" that wiped out over $19.1 billion in leveraged positions across the market.
Whether this is a hedge, a conviction bet, or just someone who really loves anniversaries, a position that size tends to get noticed. The market will price it in either way.

βΏ $1B Profit-Taking Hits Bitcoin After $87K Surge
Bitcoin's climb past $87K triggered the second-largest profit-taking day of 2026, with $1.03 billion in realized profits locked in β a "clear sign" the rally is being tested, according to Santiment. When prices run hot, wallets open. The question is whether buyers step up or the weight of all that selling bends the trend.

βοΈ US Eyes $1B Crypto Seizure in Iran Isolation Push
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has outlined an "absolute isolation campaign" against Iran β and crypto is squarely in the crosshairs. Alongside naval blockades and travel restrictions, the administration is targeting roughly $1 billion in cryptocurrency linked to the Iranian regime. Bessent's confidence level: "We know where it is."
Whether seizing it proves as straightforward as locating it is another question entirely.

βοΈ UK Sanctions Three Crypto Exchanges Linked to Russia
Britain has sanctioned three cryptocurrency exchanges and payment processors suspected of funnelling illicit funds for thousands of Russian entities β including ties to the already-sanctioned HTX exchange.
The move is part of the UK's broader effort to cut off financial escape routes used to dodge existing Russia sanctions. When your money-laundering infrastructure starts getting its own sanctions listing, you've officially made the wrong kind of history.

π¨ $820K Crypto Stolen at Gunpoint in Pattaya Home Raid
Three armed men forced a Chinese-Turkish expatriate to transfer roughly $820,000 in crypto at his luxury home near Pattaya, Thailand. The gang restrained the victim at gunpoint, made him send the funds directly to a perpetrator's wallet β who sold immediately β then walked off with cash and three luxury watches for good measure.
Thai police have opened an investigation into the suspects and the movement of the stolen funds. Wrench attacks are getting bolder.

βΏ 6M BTC Exposed to Keys β AI Crypto Threat Grows
Over 6 million Bitcoin sit behind exposed public keys, according to fresh figures from Glassnode co-founder Jan Happel β making them theoretically vulnerable if cryptographic protections are ever broken. Ethereum researcher Justin Drake is now urging the industry to prepare for potential AI-driven attacks on wallet cryptography before that threat becomes real.
No imminent exploit exists, but the concern is structural: once a public key is revealed on-chain, a sufficiently powerful adversary could derive the private key. That's a lot of BTC to leave in the theoretical crosshairs β roughly 28% of circulating supply.

π¨ $50M DeFi Hacker Convicted β Spent Loot on PokΓ©mon Cards
Jonathan Spalletta has been convicted over the 2021 Uranium Finance hack, which drained roughly $50 million from the BSC-based DeFi protocol. His shopping list with stolen crypto reads like a fever dream: PokΓ©mon cards, Magic: The Gathering cards, a Roman coin commemorating Julius Caesar's assassination, and fabric that flew to the moon with the Wright brothers' cloth. Eclectic taste, questionable life choices.
The conviction is a reminder that on-chain trails don't care how creatively you launder through collectibles.

βοΈ ESMA Sets Jan. 8 Deadline for Non-MiCA Stablecoins
Europe's markets watchdog has told EU crypto firms they have until January 8, 2027 to eliminate exposure to stablecoins that don't comply with MiCA. The ESMA guidance covers trading, custody, transfers and investment advice β essentially the full stack of services.
Firms aren't being cut off cold turkey: limited wind-down activity is permitted under regulatory supervision, including liquidation, closing open trades and withdrawals. Three months to tidy up what MiCA left messy.

π Coinbase Pro Returns β Options and Stocks in the Mix
Coinbase is bringing back its Pro platform by year-end, this time with an expanded toolkit: crypto options, price-linked contracts, and stock trading all under one roof. Availability will vary by jurisdiction, so not every trader gets the full menu.
Combining crypto and equities on a single exchange interface is an interesting bet β one that signals Coinbase is positioning itself less as a crypto-only venue and more as a broad trading platform. Whether regulators in each market agree with that vision is, as always, the interesting part.

βΏ Bitcoin up 84% since Jan 2024 β yields be damned
Bitcoin has gained 84.2% from its pre-ETF January 2024 baseline through October 5, 2026, even as both nominal and real Treasury yields climbed over the same period. The move challenges the conventional wisdom that rising yields are kryptonite for non-yielding assets like BTC.
Perhaps the "Bitcoin is just a risk asset that tracks rates" thesis needs a quiet retirement.

π¦ GSR Bets $100M of Its Own Capital on Onchain Credit
Crypto trading firm GSR is launching a vault business backed by $100M of its own capital, targeting stablecoin and tokenized gold products as institutional finance continues migrating onchain. Rather than just facilitating trades, GSR is now putting skin in the game β seeding the vaults directly to attract institutional borrowers and liquidity providers.
It's a notable signal: when a major trading desk starts warehousing onchain credit risk with its own balance sheet, the "institutional DeFi" narrative gets a little harder to dismiss.

βΏ Bitcoin Slides to $83.5K as Hormuz Crisis Rocks Markets
Bitcoin dropped to $83,570 in 24 hours as Strait of Hormuz tensions sent oil past $100 a barrel. The selloff erased roughly $80 billion from the crypto market and triggered ~$550 million in liquidations β leveraged longs taking the brunt of it, as usual.
Macro shock, crypto pain. The correlation nobody wanted to test is getting tested anyway.
