A photo taken in Ireland in 1972 shows a girl firing her boyfriend's Rifle. The boyfriend was wounded in a battle against the British army (he survived after being taken to safety and confronted British soldiers until he was killed). When the commander of the British battalion discovered that they had fought against a woman, he ordered his soldiers not to touch her body and allowed the Irish to bury her.
They heard the English commander say, "The queen doesn't care for us the way this woman cares for her man and her land." The image was chosen for Women's Day in Ireland, with the following caption: "Don't be afraid to associate with a strong woman. One day she may be your only army."
حَيِّ المَنازِلَ قَد تُرِكنَ خَرابا
بَينَ الجُرَيرِ وَبَينَ رُكنِ كُسابا
بِالثَنيِ مِن مَلِكانِ غَيَّرَ رَسمَها
مَرُّ السَحابِ المُعقِباتِ سَحابا
وَذُيولُ مُعصِفَةِ الرِياحِ فَرَسمُها
خَلَقٌ تُشَبِّهُهُ العُيونُ كِتابا
كَسَتِ الرِياحُ جَديدَها مِن تُربِها
دُقَقاً فَأَصبَحَتِ العِراصُ يَبابا
النَّفسُ راغِبةٌ إذَا رَغَّبْتَها وإِذَا تُرَدُّ إِلى قَلِيلٍ تَقْتَنَعُ
يا مَنْ تَلَوَّنَ في الطِّباعِ أمَا ترَى وَرَقَ الْغُصونِ إِذَا تَلَوَّنَ يَسْقُطُ
إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ حَظُّ الْفَتَى فِي دَهْرِهِ
إِلاَّ الرَّدَى وَمَرَارَةَ الْعَيْشِ الرَّدِي
سَعِدَ الَّذِي لَمْ يَحْيَى فِيْهِ لَحْظَةَ
حَقاً وَأَسْعَدُ مِنْهُ مَنْ لَمْ يُوْلَدِ
