Native Americans are the indigenous people of the United States divided into tribal groups including the Apache, Chippewa, Cherokee, Dakota, Finnish, Haida, Iroquois, Kalispel, Lakota Sioux Nation, Lummi Nation, Mandan, Mohawk, Nez Perce, Northern Athabaskan, Ojibwe IDA), Pueblo (Hopi), Pima County/Mohawk), Salish (Shoshone), Seneca, Shawnee/Lenape), Yakama) and Yupik peoples.
Native American traditional healing practices have been passed down for thousands of years, including ceremonies, dances (the Sun Dance and Green Corn Dance), and rituals. Spiritual leaders did not only prescribe healing practices themselves but also passed them along to their people.
Many of these traditional practices are still passed on through oral tradition. They vary from tribe to tribe and from region to region. All traditional Native American healing ceremonies "recognized a fundamental belief in a spiritual order—an order they called “Wayse- aohc” (pronounced 'way-sho-ahw'), meaning “the right way” or “the good way.”
