🚀 How often does Durov keep his promises? ⚫️ Yesterday, Pavel Durov said Telegram Wallet was ready, technically delivering on his promise to unveil it before the end of summer. The catch is that back in July, he was talking about the biggest self-custodial wallet rollout in history, potentially reaching a billion users. So far, though, access has only been given to a “select group.” Everyone else was told to wait another couple of weeks and got a promo video in the meantime. ⚫️ Since the announcement, around 2,000 wallets using the new contract have appeared on TON. But that doesn’t mean they are Telegram Wallet users — anyone can deploy a wallet using the same contract. Inside Telegram itself, we still haven’t found a single person who has actually been given access to the new wallet. ⚫️ This wouldn’t be the first time Durov failed to deliver on one of his own promises. Many will remember how, in May last year, Pavel said Telegram would get a major Grok integration over the summer. Just a few hours later, Elon Musk clarified that no deal had even been signed. ⚫️ Later, the Grok story got a convenient explanation: Telegram was supposedly unhappy with third-party AI services storing user prompts on their own servers, so Durov decided to build Cocoon instead. A neat explanation, sure — but it makes it even harder to understand why Cocoon is still unavailable. ⚫️ NFT stickers belong on the same list. Back at TOKEN2049 in spring 2024, Durov promised to tokenize stickers and emoji, with creators receiving up to 95% of the revenue. More than two years later, there has been no launch and no further comment from Durov on the idea. 👁 Let’s be frank: missed promises, repeated attempts to explain them away, and the silence around the next steps of MTONGA are starting to hurt the credibility of both Durov and Telegram itself. Hopefully, Telegram Wallet is where this streak ends — and the next public promises are actually delivered on time. @thedailyton
