Viral “dopamine sites” let users shop without buying anything... kinda simulating online retail is like “window shopping for people who can’t touch grass.”🤣 South Korea gave the world K-pop, 12-step skincare routines, and parasocial relationships with virtual boyfriends. Its latest export is a fake online store you can shop at without buying anything, and it’s the first one that’s actively trying to save you money.
Users browse, add items to a cart, enter a delivery address, and click the order button. Then a simulated courier accepts the order and heads to their location. Users can track the delivery in real time on a map. Nothing arrives. No money changes hands.
idk is this a form of accidentally therapy for shopping addicts? also, what can africa give the world something unique and digital native?

Here are the winners. Thanks to everyone who participated. Honestly, all of the top 15 articles are very good. It was very hard picking just these 3. Emails have been sent out to all the participants announcing the results. Thanks to @et_acc for help with the judging. Congrats to the winners. [Winners]

Introducing Papers API • scholarxiv.com/developers We hosted 3,032,697+ (3M+) papers so you don't have to explore research at the rate of one query per 3 seconds (arXiv's API limits) — instead you can explore research at 3,600 queries per hour. That's one query every single second, everyday! With that kind of rate you can imagine what kind of research agents and products you can build! Filter by title, author, category, abstract, or date. Get clean, structured metadata containing titles, authors, abstracts, categories, PDF links and more without parsing XML or rate-limiting yourself. Alongside the Papers API we're also launching our developers platform. This's where you can manage your API keys, track usage, try the playground and explore the documentation. There's a lot more we're building and we can't wait to see what you're going to build with this. #Launch #PapersAPI #DevelopersPlatform @ScholarXIV

So, if you get a LinkedIn message asking you to review a repo, a bit of paranoia and good security hygiene never hurts. reviewing the code with a read-only agent turned out more productive than reading it myself. https://roman.pt/posts/linkedin-backdoor/

This video by hedge fund manager is good. Framing stock buyback as "Flush with cash and short on ideas" Good commentaty On current capital market where everyone thinks they're going to the moon, no one expects a rapid unscheduled disassembly Also that Grimes hypothesis on Elon is most plausible. Love the satire, ‘I prefer it to the truth because it makes the story better!’’ Brilliant subtle dig https://youtu.be/wKXgeNwNRJ4?si=IbLGr6ztUaXwjq3v

Technology is the ultimate weapon. National sovereignty, national security, all of it is now about technology. Anyway, why pay money to people who don't even want to sell to you? Africa must deepen our R&D.

Nija Story THE YAHOO BOYS Love, Deception and the Real Lives of Nigeria's Romance Scammers (FSG) is out. The book follows four love scammers in Lagos as they scam lonely Westerners while dealing with the worst economic crisis in Nigeria. Some Nigerians are angry at this book by Carlos Barragan, as if they did not spend decades glorifying internet fraud in their songs, movies, cultures and communities. As if there aren't well known and respected celebrities who are known internet fraudsters. as Osagie Alonge says it: When I see headlines like this, I can't get angry. For decades, we've sung and danced to music that celebrates online fraud; from “Yahooze” to “Maga don pay” to “Able God”. So why should I get angry when the mirror is turned back on us?

Competing on typing code is becoming less valuable. Many breakthroughs require: Independent thinkers Strong institutions Effective teams Shared standards The challenge is balancing individuality and cooperation and what became scarcer is Original judgment Taste Problem selection Strategic thinking Novel ideas

VC “returns” from the SpaceX IPO will be insane. SpaceX raises $75B in the biggest-ever IPO, pricing 555.6M shares at $135 each, giving it a market value of $1.77T SpaceX has made history with the biggest-ever IPO, launching it into the top ranks of the largest public companies and putting founder Elon Musk on the verge of becoming the world's first trillionaire. Founders Fund's ~3% stake in SpaceX is now worth $50B+, after investing $600M a16z will get the biggest return in its history, with a $10B+ stake

Introducing BirrJS A TypeScript billing engine for the Ethiopian market. Payment gateways here only handle one-time payments, so there's no built-in support for subscriptions, entitlements, or reminders. BirrJS fills that gap with a subscription lifecycle engine that handles plans, feature gating, usage tracking, expiry and reminders, and easy payment provider integration. [ Docs ] [ Github ]

I really can’t wait for the day where people build things just by speaking in their own language. They don’t have to know code or even English for that matter. Just their own natural language. Like someone in a rural area, or someone who has never written a line of code, just explaining (through voice) a problem to their phone, then watching it turn into a real product. There are thousands of small problems around us that never get solved because the people closest to them don’t have the tools or access to build. I know this future is coming. I just really hope it is not far. @b1n1yamBuilds

Men rarely compete silently. The World Sauna Championship is a perfect example. Held annually in Finland until 2010, contestants sat in a 110°C (230°F) sauna while water was poured onto the stove every two minutes. The last person able to walk out won. In 2010, neither finalist could. The Russian competitor died, and the defending Finnish champion spent six weeks in a coma with severe burns and organ damage. The event was never held again. What makes this remarkable is that there were essentially no prizes. Yet competitors pushed themselves to the edge of death, even adapting their appearance to better endure the heat. It highlights a strange aspect of competition: once a ruleset exists, people will often find meaning in it regardless of the rewards or risks. The pursuit becomes its own justification. That's why I'm cautious about competitive pursuits and business. The real danger isn't failure; it's becoming so absorbed that the goal starts to justify any sacrifice. Learn to Desire Well.
