The pie charts show the distribution of different genres sold by a bookstore from 1972 to 2012. Overall, the percentage of books sold was evenly distributed in the first year; however, following the period, children’s and especially adults’ fiction rose in popularity, whereas the remaining categories experienced a fall in their sales performance to varying degrees. Other types of books were the bestseller at first, but it was adults’ fiction that surpassed them in 2012, while the sales of biography books lagged significantly behind. In 1972, “other” unspecified genre was commonly chosen by readers, with its sales constituting 25%. However, this proportion declined gradually, almost halving to 12% at the end and allowing other categories to overtake it. A similar drop was evident in biography, as its figure plummeted from 20% to a mere 8%, thereby slipping to the bottom of the rankings. Unlike others and biography genres, books about traveling witnessed a temporary rise from 15% to 18% in 1992 before decreasing to 10%. By contrast, fiction, either children’s or adults’, gained significant traction. The most pronounced surge was registered in the sales of adults’ fiction, making up almost the half of the total sales in 2012 (45%) compared to its initial sales figure of 20%. Meanwhile, children’s fiction saw a less drastic increase from 20% to 25% over time, becoming the second most widely favored genre. #classwork #report

Part 2 Describe something you taught your friend. 📢 deliver a presentation more confidently completely out of her depth, bright and articulate, inside out freeze and had a shaky voice, deeply relate to, nerves and anxiety, naturally blessed, countless hours of practice, through trial and error, offered a helping hand, who learned the hard way, broke down effective delivery techniques (body language and breathing exercises), fix her gaze on just one friendly face, filter out distractions and minimizes pressure, subtle hand gestures to make more engaging an effective, rehearsing, refining bit by bit, pull it off, overcoming a personal fear, could play a part in that, albeit a smaller one

Alhamdulillah for another personal milestone! 🤍 Reading seems to hate me every time I sit the IELTS exam. I don’t know why, but what I do know is that I’ve felt a 9.0 in every section at some point. Maybe Reading is just making me work for it. Still, Alhamdulillah for how far I’ve come. One step at a time. 🫶🏻

It is believed that international news should be taught to secondary school students, while others hold the opposite view, arguing that introducing such a subject is unnecessary. Acknowledging both views, I contend that international news does not have to be taught as another subject as it can be embedded into the existing ones.   On the one hand, teaching students international news can raise awareness. Since teachers explain not only current affairs but also the root causes of the currect political tensions or instabilities as well as how these problems could be avoided, young individuals can develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and empathy from an early age. A student who is well-informed about the wildfires in Australia or flooding in South Asian nations stands a better chance to be globally-minded and eco-conscious before they graduate.   On the other hand, others think that global news is a waste of time. Their rationale is that a new subject on the current affairs can divert attention from more central disciplines like maths, economics, or science that are directly relevant to students’ future career than learning about wars between nations. Biased and unfiltered content found online further explains their stance as students are not always able to distinguish transparent information. Take the war between Russia and Ukraine, for instance. Some agencies give accounts of the war that contradict with other news outlets’ reports, which can cause great confusion to growing minds.    I, however, maintain that global news can be integrated into the existing curricula without requiring a seperate discipline. While teaching history, teachers can link historical events to current affairs around the world; or in IT classes, children can get more information about the state-of-the-art technologies developed in other parts of the globe. In doing so, both students’ time and energy can be spent more productively and effectively.   To conclude, opinions are divided whether international news should be taught in the secondary school or not, with a fair share of opponents and proponents. Nevertheless, I contend that it should be integrated into school curricula seamlessly to equip young people with the necessary knowledge.   #classroom_work (written with students)

Part 1 Memory🤩 —mixed bag, really matters, remember without much effort, attach emotional significance, smaller - everyday tasks, a minor errand, pretty unreliable, how I've gotten into the habit of jotting down. —decent but far from flawless, a sharp memory, trivial details, patchy, selective rather than consistently strong. —picked up a few tricks, rely on, set reminders, calendar alerts for anything time-sensitive, cant trust myself, cement information in my memory.

In many cities, planners tend to arrange shops, schools, offices and homes in specific areas and separate them from each other. Do you think the advantages of this policy outweigh the disadvantages?   An increasing number of urban areas are adopting a more structured zoning code: shops, schools, offices, and homes are all separated from one another. While there are some advantages to this trend, I believe that the disadvantages tend to outweigh them significantly, especially in terms of inconvenience and a less vibrant city life.   There is no denying that zoning helps solve real problems. The quality of life may improve noticeably when factories and offices are pulled away from residential zones. Staying away from heavy industrial pollution, noise, and daily traffic can provide a healthier and less stressful lifestyle for residents both mentally and physically since city dwellers usually report high levels of disturbance caused by these factors. Parents can also feel less concerned about their children playing in neighborhoods, with fewer vehicles existing in streets. Singapore is the gold standard here, showing this approach in practice and creating a more arranged and predictable layout that blocks away unnecessary noise, pollutants, and vehicle use for its citizens.   However, I maintain that the drawbacks are more significant. Inconvenience caused by long hours of commuting is a notable demerit. Individuals may have to become car-dependent for virtually everything, be it picking up groceries, shopping, visiting a doctor, taking children to school, or going to work. The outcome is a city built around the commute, which can take up a considerable amount of time that could be spent on something more productive. In some regions of England, people cite long hours of drive each day as an unbearable chore however well-maintained and smooth the roads can be.   There is also a social cost. A city that prioritizes zoning over vibrancy risks turning into a ghost town. Restaurants shutter early, shops close in the middle of the day, and amusement facilities fall eerily quiet because fewer people feel compelled to visit these places once they go home due to the need for commuting again. This is the defining flaw of rigid zoning, as it can not only slow down economic growth but also discourage people from sharing the same pavement on their way to shops, markets, and clubs nestled in small neighborhoods. Tokyo, adopting a somewhat chaotic yet undeniably organic approach, is a perfect example of round-the-clock city life. Residents are free to walk around streets at night, enjoy the nightlife socializing, and shop whenever they want, creating a more bustling atmosphere.   To conclude, the benefits to zoning, such as lower levels of noise and pollution, are offset by the drawbacks. This stems from the belief that a city, by its definition, should offer a more dynamic lifestyle that facilitates walkability, communal connection, and easier access to facilities.

The tables show the results of surveys conducted in 1980 and 2010 about the aspects of city life in a certain urban area. Overall, positive ratings outweighed negative responses in 1980, with healthcare being the most favourably cited category. However, over the three decades, most figures declined noticeably, with transport remaining the least satisfactory aspect in both years. Conversely, employment and education saw a notable improvement, with the latter pushing it past healthcare, whereas other aspects recorded comparable levels of satisfaction. Healthcare was the most favourable aspect of city life initially, making up a substantial 82% of positive feedback, while 10% and 8% of people mentioned it was neither good nor bad and bad, respectively. This leading proportion, though, dropped to 74% in 2010, with neutral and negative ratings rising to either 14% or 12%. A less drastic downward trajectory was observed in shops and environment, where the percentage of satisfied respondents eased marginally from 64% to 62% as well as from 72% to 71%, far surpassing negative ratings. Transportation, on the other hand, attracted the lowest level of satisfaction in both years, as the figure plummeted further from 52% to as low as 39%, almost matching “bad” ratings (38%). The only aspects that witnessed great improvements were education and employment. The former, starting as the second most favorable aspect, surged to the top, as 82% of respondents rated it as "very good" compared to the previous 72%. Likewise, employment improved significantly, with positive feedback rising from 62% to 72%, contrasting with the shrinking negative responses.
