Story

Why does grammar matter so much in IELTS? 🧠 Grammar isn’t just important for Writing and Speaking. It can directly affect your accuracy and speed in Reading and Listening too. - Tenses help you understand when something happened, especially when several events are mentioned. - Singular/plural forms can make the difference between a correct and incorrect answer. If the question requires “buildings” but you write “building”, your answer may be marked wrong. - Articles (a, an, the) help you understand whether the speaker/writer is introducing something new or referring to something specific. - Relative clauses and complex sentences can make long Reading sentences much easier to understand. If you don't recognise the structure, you may waste time rereading the same sentence. - Passive voice is especially common in academic texts and Listening. Recognising “was built” vs “built” quickly helps you identify who did what. - Paraphrasing through grammar is another big one. The question might use one structure, while the text or recording uses a completely different one. So, if you want to read faster, follow recordings more easily and avoid losing marks because of small details, grammar is not optional. Good grammar = better understanding + greater accuracy + more speed. So, next time you do another mock test, make sure you dedicate some time to grammar.

Word formation mistakes in IELTS Writing A word formation mistake happens when you know the right word but use the wrong form of it. The government should focus on the develop of public transport. The government should focus on the development of public transport. The number of cars increased significant. The number of cars increased significantly. Think in word families: develop -> development -> developed significant -> significantly -> significance success -> successful -> successfully One mistake won’t destroy your score, but repeated word-form errors show limited control of vocabulary and can affect Lexical Resource. The key is not just knowing a word. Know how it changes depending on its role in the sentence.

One of the most underrated ways to improve your IELTS Listening and Reading is surprisingly simple: Do the tests without looking at the questions. Instead of constantly searching for answers, just focus on understanding. 🎧 For Listening, simply listen to the recording from beginning to end as if it were a podcast. 📖 For Reading, read the passage like you would read an interesting article. When you’re not distracted by the questions, your brain can fully concentrate on meaning, connections between ideas, vocabulary, and the overall flow of the text. Many students spend all their time practicing answer-finding. But real improvement comes from developing the ability to understand English naturally. It may sound primitive, but building a habit of simply reading and listening with full attention is one of the most powerful and overlooked ways to improve comprehension.

Band 9.0 tip. If you feel like your vocabulary bank is good enough but you are still failing to get 9.0 in R and L, then what will help you master these modules is understanding how these tests are created. Seeing patterns and traps so to say. This comes naturally if your pattern recognition is strong, but if not, you might need to learn a few tricks. For example, one way you lose your points is that you listen and wait for the key word in Section 4, but when it finally comes, you can’t help but notice you missed the answer, which had been given way earlier. This is no longer a language issue, in my opinion. It’s more about technique.

#writing #mysample The graph compares the number of participants in five different activities at a social center in Melbourne, Australia, from 2000 to 2020. Overall, the graph indicates noticeable variations in the participation trends over the timeframe, with the film club consistently exhibiting the highest number of participants. Also, table tennis and musical performances saw significant rises, while amateur dramatics experienced a decline. The film club maintained the highest number of participants throughout the period, starting at around 65 in 2000 and finishing at around the same level in 2020, though with a negligible dip in 2010. The trend for the next category, Martial arts, was similar, though it peaked in 2010, at just under 40 participants. It had some mild fluctuations over the period, starting at 35 participants in 2000 and ending with a similar number in 2020. Notably, amateur dramatics was the only activity to see a decrease in participation, plummeting from 25 participants in 2000 to about 8 by 2020 – the least popular activity among the five at this point. This is in stark contrast to table tennis and musical performances, both of which saw considerable growth. The former increased from around 15 in 2000 to just above 50 by 2020, with more pronounced surges from 2010 onwards, while the latter started with no participants in 2000 and grew steadily to around 18 participants by 2020.
