The
median earnings of an average Uzbek are not high, and this
creates a complete imbalance against the cost of clothing that you find in most stores, especially imported clothing. One place that offers just that is the Poytakht Shopping Mall. It's in the center of the city, and it offers
so-called high-quality luxury brand items for its customers, most of whom are either
people with deep pockets or foreigners who,
for one reason or another, ended up in Tashkent.
I used to be a regular visitor, and I don't say it with pride because now, looking back, I regret most of the purchases I made there. They all
came to an end after one particularly disappointing experience.
So one time, I went there to get myself a purse for a party. After I found the right kind—a small, shiny, beautiful
designer purse—I bought it without thinking twice. I was charged quite exorbitantly, but when I came home, I discovered a little problem with it. One of its
compartments had a broken zipper. It
put me off completely. I was so
bummed out. I obviously blamed myself for not being extra careful, but I also blamed the seller for acting so dishonestly, giving me this
rip-off item.
Ever since, I have never
stepped foot into that place again.
