Ironic comments are made by an insane narrator who starts by stating that he does not expect the reader to believe him To examplify for the dark and tragic mood of the story First The narrator became always enraged because of alcohol He pluck out one of his cat's eyes Secondly He killed his beloved cat in moment of anger Third He killed his wife while trying to kill his other cat
