German Unity Day – Saturday, 3 October 2026 Tag der Deutschen Einheit is Germany's national day. It marks the moment in 1990 when East and West Germany formally reunified into a single country after decades of division, one of the most significant dates on the German calendar. It's also a nationwide public holiday. Since it falls on a Saturday this year, closing rules apply, meaning grocery stores and most shops will be closed all day. Stock up on groceries and anything else you need by Friday!

Pride Month may be ending, but the work doesn't stop here. Throughout June, we talked about where Pride began, how it looks different around the world, and the local community keeping it alive in Darmstadt through groups like Vielbunt. That same spirit needs to carry into the other eleven months of the year too. Being an ally isn't a one-time action, it's a daily practice, especially in the moments that don't make it onto a feed. A small comment left unchallenged, a colleague who doesn't feel safe being out, a friend who needs someone to actually listen, these are the everyday tests of allyship. So as the rainbow flags come down this week, here's what staying engaged can look like: Listen without judgment Speak up against discrimination Educate yourself Share queer voices Support LGBTQIA+ spaces and people Let's show up, for each other, every day.

Looking for queer community in Darmstadt? Vielbunt is a vibrant local organisation creating safe spaces, events, and visibility for LGBTQIA+ people in and around Darmstadt. Whether you're looking for connection, support, or just want to get involved, they're a great place to start. Visibility matters, 365 days a year. Get involved @vielbunt.org CSD Darmstadt takes place on 15 August 2026!

Questions about your visa or residence permit? We've got you covered! Our support sessions are available both in person and online. Visit our website for session times, the online link, and everything you need to prepare.

It's going to be very hot in Darmstadt this week. Please take care of yourself! Stay in the shade, drink plenty of water, and avoid physical exertion during the hottest parts of the day. If you're heading to a lake or river to cool off, please take extra care. Hot weather can make swimming more risky than it seems. Natural bodies of water can have unexpected cold zones, strong currents, or sudden depth changes that can catch even confident swimmers off guard. If you didn't grow up swimming regularly, it's especially worth being cautious: go in slowly, stay close to the shore, and never swim alone. Water Refill stations
