The Fluke 381 is a professional True-RMS AC/DC #clampmeter designed for electrical #troubleshooting. Its main feature is the removable wireless display, which allows you to take measurements while viewing the readings from a safe distance. It can measure AC/DC current up to 999.9 A, AC/DC voltage up to 1000 V, resistance up to 60 kΩ, and frequency up to 500 Hz. With the included #iFlex flexible current probe, it can measure AC current up to 2500 A. It also provides Inrush Current, Min/Max/Avg measurements, continuity, backlight and a low-pass filter for measurements on noisy electrical systems. The #Fluke 381 is rated #CAT III 1000 V / CAT IV 600 V. For an #ETO, it is especially useful for checking generators, motors, switchboards, feeders and high-current circuits where the remote display improves safety.

🤔 Why are almost all circuit boards green? 🟢 The short answer is: they don’t have to be green, but green became the industry standard because it offers the best balance of cost, manufacturing quality, and ease of inspection. Here are the main reasons: - The green layer is the #solder mask. The #fiberglass board underneath (usually FR-4) is naturally yellowish or light brown. The green coating protects the #copper traces from corrosion, prevents solder bridges, and provides electrical insulation. - #Green provides the best contrast. Copper traces, white silkscreen markings, and solder joints are easy for technicians and automated optical inspection (#AOI) systems to see on a green background. This makes defects easier to detect. - Manufacturing history. Green solder mask was one of the first formulations to become highly reliable and inexpensive. Since millions of #PCBs have been produced this way for decades, it remains the most economical choice. - Good optical properties. Green reflects light in a way that reduces eye strain during manual inspection compared with some darker colors. Why are some PCBs other colors? Today, manufacturers can produce almost any color: - Black – Premium appearance, but traces and defects are harder to inspect. - Blue – Common in consumer electronics and prototypes. - Red – Popular for development boards. - White – Used in #LED lighting because it reflects light well, but shows dirt and flux residue easily. - Yellow, purple, matte black, etc. – Mostly chosen for branding or aesthetics. The color does not affect the electrical performance of the #PCB. The #circuit works the same whether the board is green, blue, black, or red. The differences are mainly in manufacturing, inspection, cost, and appearance. For marine #electronics, industrial control systems, and power electronics, you’ll still find that green is by far the most common color because it is proven, economical, and easy to inspect during #maintenance.

Loss of Liquid in Magnetic Compass During a routine watch, the Officer of the Watch noticed that the #magneticcompass reading had become blurred. After inspection, a leak of the compass liquid was found, most likely caused by worn seals. Because the #liquid loss was significant, the compass bowl could not simply be refilled. A spare compass bowl was installed, and a replacement was ordered for delivery at the next port to ensure compliance with #SOLAS requirements. This incident highlights the importance of regular inspections of the magnetic compass. Officers should check the compass during every watch and inspect the binnacle and #compass bowl monthly. Any signs of liquid loss, air bubbles, or seal deterioration should be addressed immediately to maintain safe #navigation and prevent equipment failure.

Emergency Stop Buttons – A Critical Safety Check During a routine pre-arrival inspection, the #crew discovered that the emergency stop button on one mooring #winch was stuck and failed to operate. The problem was caused by corrosion of the silumin (aluminium-silicon alloy) #shaft, preventing the button from moving freely. After cleaning and polishing the shaft, the #emergency #stop function was fully restored. This incident highlights the importance of regularly testing all emergency stop buttons before using #deckmachinery. Any malfunction must be reported immediately, and the equipment should remain out of service until it has been repaired. Regular inspection and #maintenance of #emergencystops are essential to ensure safe operation and prevent accidents.
