Ok friends just wanted to post an update on the Mellisa officinalis tincture I started just a day ago. Already this beautiful green color as well as the sweet lemony taste you may expect from such a beautiful vibrant plant🌱 I am using fresh from the garden lemon balm. The menstruum is 190 proof grain alcohol. In about 5 days I will remove this marc and replace with fresh herb. It will be apparent as I will show that the herb is spent, being translucent and brittle. I will let sit another week or so then strain and bottle. If you let sit too long the tincture will be unnecessarily bitter. The high proof alcohol is necessary to extract the fixed oils and other desirable constituents . In fact the desirable effects contributed to lemon balm are dependent on these alcohol soluble compounds. Extract with the high proof then dilute with water to desired potency at dosing. For water based elements dry and use as a tea .
