The bar chart illustrates how much a kilometre of clothing which six countries imported to the EU cost in the years 1993 and 2003. Overall, while the average price of clothing imported from China, India and Bangladesh showed a rise, the reverse was true for Argentina and Japan, with Brazil's figures staying the same over the decade in question. Notably, the price of the clothing coming from Argentina remained the most expensive whereas the Bangladesh's clothing was the cheapest to import in both years despite the trends they witnessed. Argentina and Japan experienced a fall in the price of the clothing they imported to the European Union. A kilometre of clothing imported from the former country went for about 27 pounds, which declined by around 2.5 pounds between 1993 and 2003, remaining the most pricey clothing import among the six countries. These were twice as high as the prices of Japanese clothing, which showed a similar falling trend from 15 to roughly 13 pounds. In contrast, three remaining Asian countries, namely China, India and Bangladesh, had a rise in the price of clothing they imported. Their costs for per kilometre were all 10 pounds or lower in 1993. Over the following decade, all of those figures nearly doubled, with approximately 16, 12 and 6 pounds for China, India and Bangladesh respectively in 2003. Although the price of Bangladesh clothing had shown an increase by the end, it remained the cheapest in both years. Brazil was the only country which showed a totally different trend to the other countries. Its figures did not change remaining at about 23 pounds, thus coming second in both 1993 and 2003. People have varying opinions about different subjects taught at schools and a debatable one of them is teaching international news to high school students as a separate subject. While this subject comes with some benefits for those who learn it, I believe that most students do not need this subject as it may waste their time. One of the advantages of learning global news could be that students can broaden their horizon with the help of this subject. The agenda of the social subjects of this kind usually includes discussing world affairs, exchanging ideas with each other. This helps students enhance their critical thinking as they have to debate about a wide range of topics, including education systems, crime as well as health care, which encourages them to think broadly and look at the same case from different angles. Moreover, knowing what is happening around the world increases students awareness and knowledge. They will become more cautious and conscious of themselves and those around them. For example, if they learn about different emergency situations, such as fires, occurring in particular parts of the world and their undesirable consequences, they will be sure what steps to take should the same incidents happen to them. Despite the arguments above, I agree with those arguing that learning that kind of subject separately is a waste of valuable school time for the following reasons. First and foremost, this subject does not necessarily have to be taught as one school subjects. This is because students can read the news independently or it can also be taught as a part of other social subjects such as law, reading, psychology depending on the issue or news that has to be covered. This way, the saved time can be dedicated to more important disciplines like exact sciences. Another reason is that most of the knowledge acquired in this subject is highly likely to be theoretical rather than practical. There is a small likelihood that students who want to specialize in mathematics or history will use what they have learned during international news class. Thus, this subject need not be taught as one of school subjects. In conclusion, it is true that secondary school students can expand their worldview and increase their awareness by means of international news classes. However, I am of the opinion that this subjects could be a waste of precious school time as it can be learn by students themselves if they want to and is not so practical as other subjects.
