Emergency Preparedness: (Gas Storage) People have to do their own research and follow local laws. That being said, I like having reserve fuel in case of emergencies. I keep a couple 5-gal containers for regular use, mowers, etc. But I also like a couple 30-gal drums. Why 30’s ? Because they are stored in a garage, and easier to move. Once a year I roll them out, add additive as needed to preserve it, stir it with a broom stick. Seal it back up, re-date a label and stuff em back in storage. You can get the barrels from a local container supplier (get new barrels). You’ll also need a pump. I have shown two. I got the better one. And, a barrel tool to open & close.

Sounds to me like you may want to have some of your own reserves on hand, regarding gas or diesel. 🙄

// The U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve will hit its absolute operational tank bottom in 7 to 8 months (early 2027) if the current depletion rate goes completely unchanged. However, due to national defense regulations and cavern structural integrity, the government will likely be forced to halt drawdowns in less than 3 months (by late August or September 2026).

// 1. Identify Current Inventory and Depletion Pace [1] As of the week ending June 5, 2026, the official YCharts EIA Data places the SPR inventory at 349.19 million barrels. To combat the ongoing war in Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the Trump administration has accelerated drawdowns. The current depletion rate is averaging roughly 8 to 9.9 million barrels per week (or about 1.28 to 1.41 million barrels per day). [1, 2, 3, 4, 5] 2. Calculate Timelines for the 3 Critical "Bottoms" The U.S. cannot physically or legally drain the reserve to zero barrels. Instead, it will hit three distinct operational thresholds: [1] ⚠️ The Legal & Policy Floor: ~243 to 252 Million Barrels [1] What it is: The minimum safety threshold established to fulfill International Energy Agency (IEA) obligations and maintain basic Department of Defense war-fighting capabilities. [1, 2, 3] Barrels left until reached: \(349.2\text{M} - 247\text{M} \approx \mathbf{102.2\text{ million barrels}}\). Estimated Time: 11 to 12 weeks (approx. 2.7 months). At the current pace, the administration will legally have to halt or heavily contest aggressive drawdowns by late August or September 2026. [1]

// Yes, the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) has fallen to ~349 million barrels, which is nearly a 40-year low and roughly half of its total authorized capacity of 714 million barrels. The reserve is currently nearing lows last seen in August 1983. [1, 2] The recent depletion has been heavily driven by the ongoing war in Iran and the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz. To combat resulting global supply deficits and keep domestic gas prices from skyrocketing, the Trump administration has been releasing and exporting millions of barrels a week. [1, 2] While the SPR is not completely at "tank bottom"—which is a critical operational threshold where pumping hits sludge or debris—the rapid drawdowns are raising alarms among energy experts and the oil industry. How to change your crappy MidWest gas cans into something that actually works like it should. 1) Change out gas spout: Gas Can Spout Replacement Kit, Gas Can Nozzle Replacement (2 Kit-White) Amazon - $9.99 https://a.co/d/047MAu3T 2) Add an additional spout gasket since most of these spouts tend to bottom out and leak. However, the only decent gasket I could find came with a cap. Niwicka 5 Gallon Gas Can Cap With Seal ‘That Fits’ The Coarse Thread Gas Cap for 5+ Gallon Plastic Jugs like the ‘MidWest Jugs’ (Pack of 4) Amazon - $9.99 https://a.co/d/07N6q4KH 3) Add a gas can vent. Most of the plastic vents that come with the spout kits tend to bust off on the MidWest jugs since the plastic is thicker. Go with the metal ones. This 3-pack of universal gas can vent caps is made of durable stainless steel with a leak-proof design to allow for faster, smoother pouring. Amazon - $7.99 https://a.co/d/0gNroZU9

New gas jugs are such crap. I find that their ‘safety features’ actually make them more dangerous. Here’s how to fix them. 👊 https://youtu.be/TvdLfwv75wo //
