I didn't fully appreciate Batman the Animated Series as a kid, but by early adulthood I knew there was something special about it. It really comes down to three things: 1. Score. Full orchestra that punches well above it's weight on every episode. 2. Art design. Didn't like it as a kid, but now I appreciate the dark, muted tones, the Art Deco styling, the unique cartoon simplicity of the characters. 3. Voice actors. Kevin Conroy IS Batman.
