🇹🇬BREAKING: Researchers Used Anthropic’s Claude to Breach OpenAI’s Internal GitHub
Security researchers at Hacktron AI claim they chained two vulnerabilities to compromise OpenAI’s community forum and access employee accounts connected to ChatGPT, Codex and GitHub.
The attack reportedly started with a malicious HEIF/HEIC image exploiting a vulnerable libheif decoder, allowing code execution on the forum server. Researchers then chained this with a flaw in OpenAI’s “Sign in with OpenAI” SSO system.
They demonstrated access by opening a harmless pull request in an internal OpenAI repository, while stating that they did not read sensitive source code.
Hacktron says Claude Opus 5 helped develop the working exploit after an earlier Claude model struggled. OpenAI reportedly patched the SSO issue within about 14 hours and paid a $6,500 bounty.
