The so-called "cucked interpretation so many put forward" literally states the following from Jesus's mouth: "Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust." (Matthew 5:43-45). A similar passage by Luke 6:27-30 states the following: "But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not to take thy coat also. Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask themnot again." These Christians have neverending copes.

Christ said "love your enemies" not "you have no enemies" - meaning he acknowledged enmity. This implies his acknowledgement of the necessity to oppose, fight and defeat your enemies, as that is what an enemy is. So he mustn't have meant the cucked interpretation so many put forward that Christ's teaching is that enmity itself is immoral or something to be avoided. Enmity for Christ is something others can offer us which we should love them for, which we can't do if we perceive "loving them" as denying our enmity. What I think this must mean therefore is that we should relish opposition, struggle, battle and victory - as none of these things are possible without enmity. If Christ had no enemies, no Satan to tempt him, no Pharisees to persecute him and ultimately conspire to have him executed, then Christ could not be Christ. To love your enemies then is to accept enmity for what it is, an opportunity to show what you are and what you stand for.
