🆕 Polytechnic scientists have developed software for analysing neural connections SpineTool is a computer program that automatically analyses images and calculates the shape of neuron outgrowths that form connections in the brain. These formations are called dendritic spines. They occur when a person is memorizing information or learning something new. 💬 "The shape of dendritic spines changes in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, Down syndrome, and even when taking psychostimulants. It is about the development of any unfavourable processes in the brain. This happens very quickly, and our software allows us to quantify these changes," explained Ekaterina Pchitskaya, a researcher at the Laboratory of Molecular Neurodegeneration of the IBSB. Polytechnic University will participate in the Economic and Humanitarian Forum of the second Russia-Africa Summit, which will be held in St. Petersburg on July 27 and 28. One of the central issues to be discussed at the summit will be the development of cooperation with African countries in the scientific and educational sphere, including higher education. During the summit it is planned to consider aspects of forming new sustainable ties between universities of Russia and African countries, expanding personnel training in the interests of priority sectors of the economy and humanitarian sphere of the African continent.
