Did you know that the famous science fiction writer Nick Perumov is a graduate of Polytechnic? In 1986, Nikolai (Nick) Perumov graduated from the Department of Biophysics, Faculty of Physics and Mechanics. He was engaged in molecular immunology. He participated in the development of treatment methods for victims of the Chernobyl accident. In the late 1970s he became interested in fantasy, read in the original and translated books by John Tolkien. At the same time, Nikolai himself began to write. The book was published under the title "The Ring of Darkness", it is believed that it marked the beginning of Russian fantasy. Nick Perumov began to invent his own worlds, but as a physical engineer he tried to make sure that the fairy tale universe also obeyed physical laws, like the existing universe. In 2004 he was recognized as the best science fiction writer in Europe.

27 January - the day of the complete liberation of Leningrad from fascist invaders The significance of this day for the fate of Leningrad can hardly be overestimated. The blockade lasted from 8 September 1941 to 27 January 1944. The Germans aimed to break the resistance of the defenders of Leningrad and capture it, but were defeated. Dear friends, polytechnics, citizens of St. Petersburg, on this memorable day we call on you to remember those who laid down their lives in defence of our Motherland. We remember! We are proud!
