Notably the Canadian equivalent Generals Die in Bed is excellent and hailed by some as the finest work of Canadian Literature (written by an American). But the German is the one given status/privilege among accounts of the war. What’s more Generals was written by an actual grunt and All Quiet by and artilleryman which is major difference for obvious reasons. Btw if anyone has an ePub or copy of Flesh in Armour by Leonard Mann the Aussie equivalent of All quiet which was actually suppressed by publishers please let me know where it is and send me a copy. There's a couple good ones on my bookshelf, check out A Rifleman Went to War by Herbert McBride of the CEF, not so much for a good narrative but a practical treatise on machine gunnery, trench sniper tactics, marksmanship, and trench raiding.
