Theory I've been kicking around in my head the last couple of days. So, Jägermeister. I ended up looking a little bit into its history. It was created in 1934 in Germany by Curt Mast who was an avid hunter. It was nicknamed Göring-Schnapps early on because Göring, an avid hunter himself, was appointed Reichsjägermeister (Reich hunting master). Jägermeister as a drink has been historically and culturally linked to the more conservative and rural folk of Germany. It's the digestif, something you're supposed to drink after a meal to help digest. In Germany it was never a shooter drink or something to get messed up on. It's a cultural and socioeconomic drink if anything. So how did that image change? Why does it have such a different association everywhere else? A jew named Sidney Frank made it that way. He promoted it as a party drink internationally. Sidney Frank was also, unsurprisingly, a huge zionist and deeply involved in Israeli sports. I personally just view that as an intentional degradation of something culturally Germanic. When you hear about Jägermeister you think of something low class and disgusting. You think of excess. Maybe I'm overthinking it. Maybe I need to be corrected by Germanophiles on something I'm getting wrong here. That's just how I see it though.
