Middle meningeal artery
Middle meningeal artery is the largest meningeal branch that arises from the first part of maxillary artery in the infratemporal fossa. It courses through the foramen spinosum to enter the cranial cavity. It gives off numerous branches that supply the dura mater and the bones of the skull. It is the most important of all the dural arteries, supplying two-thirds of the cranial dura with blood. Rupture of this artery can lead to epidural hematoma, not subdural hematoma.
