The government are trying to shift the blame from the states poor energy and water infrastructure as well as their incompetence and unpreparedness for an emergency response, onto country people living in rural areas. ‘Never let a good crisis go to waste’ springs to mind. Those selfish people who have lived on the family farm for generations have no consideration for others type of rhetoric. Best get them into a 15 min city where they won’t need a car or burden the state in future emergencies. They even mention the common good a few times which should set off alarm bells for any thinking person after Covid. I’ve heard this Brendan O’Sullivan guy on radio a few times. He’s the head of planning in Cork I think.
