New laws for schools in South Africa an ‘overreach by the state’: governing bodies As the Basic Education Laws Amendment (BELA) Bill moves closer to being signed into law, supporters hope that the new legislation will close many ‘loopholes’ in the education system. However, many school governing bodies (SGBs) continue to oppose the coming changes and worry that their concerns have fallen on deaf ears. CEO of the Federation of Governing Bodies of South African Schools (Fedsas), Dr. Jaco Deacon said that the bill “will discourage school communities from taking ownership of public schools [which] will take us back to a state school model where the state will have ultimate control over everything.” He said South Africa “stepped away from that model in 1994.” While numerous provisions in the bill have been welcomed, including expanding the definition of corporal punishment to protect children and criminalising some parental conduct – many, including those to do with SGBs, have been met with fierce resistance. ALBANY WIND FARM - Albany Wind Power (Pty) Ltd. plans to develop, construct and operate a Wind Energy Facility (WEF) approximately seven kilometres (7 km) east of Makhanda/Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape Province. The public is being asked to comment. The proposed Albany WEF will consist of up to twenty-five (25) turbines with a proposed maximum power output of the facility of up to 297 MW. Wind energy is intermittent

A wind turbine's effectiveness in generating electricity depends on the weather; thus, it can be difficult to predict exactly how much electricity a wind turbine will generate over time. If wind speeds are too low on any given day, the turbine's rotor won't spin. 

This means wind energy isn't always available for dispatch in times of peak electricity demand. In order to use wind energy exclusively, wind turbines need to be paired with some sort of energy storage technology.

Wind energy causes noise and visual pollution

One of the biggest downsides of wind energy is the noise and visual pollution. Wind turbines can be noisy when operating due to both the mechanical operation and the wind vortex created when the blades are rotating. Additionally, because wind turbines need to be built up high enough to capture a good amount of wind, the turbines can often interrupt otherwise scenic landscapes, such as mountain ranges, lakes, oceans, and more.

Wind turbines have some negative impacts on their surrounding environment

A wind turbine's blades are very large and rotate at very high speeds. Unfortunately, their blades can harm and kill species that fly into them, like birds and bats. The construction of wind farms can also disrupt the natural habitats of local species if not conducted sustainably. However, these problems can be solved to some extent with technological advancements and properly-siting wind farms.

Wind energy is remote

Wind energy requires transmission. In many cases, turbines and generation sites may be located quite far from the population centers where electricity is needed. Therefore, transmission lines are an additional piece of infrastructure that must be built for this form of energy generation to be successful.

How to END your Vodacom contract! 1) You must go into their store with your ID. 2) Make them pull up your contract details on their computer. 3) While sitting there, with the screen open, call the cancelation line. Make sure you get the consultant's full name and write it down first so they can't just drop the phone on you when they realize you will not renew your contract. 4) If you want to keep your number, tell them to move it to prepaid and "port it" so another provider can take it upon your request. 5) To cancel the contract, they will ask for about 5 million details that they will 'need' you to confirm - being in-store with your details open on their screen makes it easier. 6) Check changes have been made by refreshing on the system of the person in the store, while you are still on the phone with the consultant. Make sure you see the changes have been made. 7) And wait for the cancellation SMS before putting that phone down! - Do not drop the call before receiving the SMS and seeing the change on the screen. (THE CONSULTANT'S WILL LIE TO YOU) 8) Know that if you want to cancel your contract early there will be an unreasonable amount to pay. 9) If you want to cancel because their products are not delivering what they promised, you need to log 3 faults before becoming eligible.
