Happy & Blessed Tuesday Friends! The VanDeWater Homestead at Liberty Hill Farm Ground hog proofing was a success. Phew! Our watermelons are safe and hopefully now will recover and rebound. Thankfully, not all were bothered by the ground hogs. We have so many ground hogs this year. Sammy has had a few chases around the yard, lately we have been leashing him up. He's so quick and we do not want him getting caught up with one. Yesterday we harvested our potatoes we planted in April. This yielded us 32lbs and I probably grabbed about three pounds from the bags prior to our harvest. I couldn't wait or resist. Nothing like fresh potatoes for home fries in the morning with our farm fresh eggs! Our turnips are the best we've ever harvested. So uniform, smooth, no worms. We still have peas, most people write them off as the weather warms. This year is a first for us to harvest this early. Must be doing something right! Happy & Blessed Monday Friends! The VanDeWater Homestead at Liberty Hill Farm Hope everyone had a wonderful time celebrating the Fourth and our 250th! It was a simple and easy going weekend for us. Keeping up with projects, watering, chickens and farm life. We have been gathering some delicious goodies from our gardens. Cucumbers, turnips, beans, lettuce, peas, beets and herbs. But, our ground hogs keep finding ways to make a little trouble. So far, we have successfully kept them out until we discovered they found a way into our watermelons. So last night through mosquitoes and almost dark, we hurried to put a barrier up. This morning I noticed they still found a way to get at some of the stems. They must love watermelon! Today we will be making sure they no longer have a way in. Also on the agenda, planting our last group of potatoes and some other fun farming projects!
