💢On This Mother's Day 💐 💢 There is a woman who will stay home from church this Sunday to avoid the fanfare — the reminder of what she doesn't have but desperately desires. There is also the single mom with no husband to rally her children around her to celebrate. There is a woman who lost her baby this year, this mom. And I think of the mother with a wayward child, for whom Mother's Day makes her wonder if she's less of a mother than the women standing beside her, holding their roses. Or the adoptive mom, fielding the layers of her child's emotions on this day. My mind wanders to the daughter without a mother. How do we celebrate Mother's Day when we acutely feel the limitations it brings -- the fenceline keeping us in ... or out? Our Western world celebrates while some cry in the shadows. But God sees into the shadows. He sees you. He carries your loss more than you do. His heart beats for your ache. He is nearest to you today, woman. Every hurt you feel in the shadows is seen by your Father, Who sees it in secret. As you shrink back into the shadows, may you sense His gentle seeing eyes into your darkness.
