Histomonas meleagridis is a species of parasitic protozoan 🪱 that infects a wide range of birds 🐦 including chickens 🐔, turkeys 🦃, peafowl 🦚, quail and pheasants, causing infectious enterohepatitis, or histomoniasis (blackhead diseases). H. meleagridis can infect many birds, but it is most deadly in turkeys 🦃. It is inhabits the lumen of cecum and parenchyma of liver, where it causes extensive necrosis. It is transmitted by another cecal parasite 🪱, the nematode Heterakis gallinarum. 🆔 @medical_vetparasitology

✏️ Cordylobia anthropophaga, the mango fly, or skin maggot fly 🪰, is a species of blow-fly common in East and Central Africa. It is a parasite of large mammals (including humans) during its larval stage. C. anthropophaga has been endemic in the subtropics of Africa for more than 135 years and is a common cause of myiasis in humans 👨‍👨‍👧‍👦and animals 🐕🐈 in the region. . Successful penetrations in humans and animals results in furuncular (boil-like) myiasis 🐛, typically on the backs of arms or about the waist, lower back, or buttocks. Paramphostomosis (Rumen fluke) in the rumen mucosa of an adult bullock 🐂. The most common of these fluke is called Calicophoron dauneyi. The larval stage of this parasite 🪱 can cause significant disease in the intestine of young cattle 🐮🐄 and sheep 🐏🐑. Hydatid cyst in kidney Hydatid cyst is one of the most important zoonotic diseases caused by Echinococcus granulosus. The infection is transmitted through the oral-fecal pathway through the eggs 🥚 of the parasite and moreover by eating vegetables 🥬 and food contaminated with dog 🐶🐾 feces 💩 containing eggs 🥚 of the parasite 🪱. Hydatid cyst can produce in the liver, lungs 🫁 and rarely in the heart 🫀, breast 🤱, thyroid, soft tissue of the neck and kidneys.
