The telecom industry censorship malfunctioned in India recently, as a few news outlets reported of 400% increase in risk of brain cancer from smart phone use in teenagers. In the US telecom industry spends millions on suppressing truth about wireless radiation risks, so don’t expect the news to make the front page here. Professor Girish Kumar of the Indian Institute of Technology submitted a report to the central government on the serious health hazards of wireless radiation. These risks include but not limited to: - brain cancer - irreversible damage to male fertility - irreversible damage to human DNA - sleep disorders - Alzheimer’s disease - Parkinson’s disease Professor Kumar advised to limit smart phone use to under 30 minutes a day. 2/2 What can we learn from this? Legal action is an avenue, does it work? Don’t know. Writing in is necessary, does it work? Probably not but it absolutely has to be done. Lastly, clearly local MPs CAN play a role, however I must highlight that Paul is Ex Optus and knew “who” to contact at Telstra. Basically there are no straightforward tried and tested solution to small cell proposals that we are aware of, YET! But I would love to hear of your own journeys with this and outcomes if you have any so we can collate case studies to share and use for others. Thanks! X

1/2 Local 5G and 4G small cell update: Three new locations were proposed for x3 5G and x3 4G masts, each about 200m apart. In each of the x3 streets there were only a few concerned families. They wrote objection letters and engaged legal support. Telstra withdrew the proposals. We thought we had a win. Three months later the x3 proposals were back. Once again the locals wrote in and got their lawyer to write. But Telstra said they were going to go ahead this time. Cue ex minister of communications Paul Fletcher who is the local MP who was hosting a small meet and greet for locals at the shops one morning. A few of the concerned ladies went to speak to him and he agreed to come and visit their streets to see the Telstra proposals. The following week he emailed Telstra asking them to consider a new location for the small cells due to opposition in the community. That VERY DAY Telstra withdrew their proposals from 2 of the the 3 sites. The pic below is the one that went up.

2/2 What are the solutions? *Firstly to educate where we can, to those who want to listen. Steve Galvin and I love holding info workshops on this. *Secondly is to massively reduce and eliminate where we can our own smartphone usage. Every time we use 4G data we are saying 'yes' to mobile phone base stations, this is a fact. We can't work to stop mobile phone base stations if we are simultaneously using the networks day in day out, our very usage is a form of consent. *Thirdly is to accept that we are waaaay ahead of the collective here and it will take time for the changes we wish to see, manifest. We need to focus on keeping ourselves and our families safe during this time which means looking at ways to keep our homes a low EMR environment. For those that can't move away from a small cell it would be worth looking at blocking solutions and engaging a professional to properly protect the home.

1/2 These areas are close to where I live - there has been an absolute explosion of small cells, densely placed. And at the moment they are primarily TELSTRA. Each Telstra small cell base station has about x6 masts, x3 4G and x3 5G. Now, what happens when Optus and Vodafone decide to do the same and offer their own customers the same coverage Telstra is offering theirs? These streets will be littered with small cells, that old saying back in 2019 "there will be 5G on every lamp post" won't be far from the truth - they are going up on utility poles, and since Telstra's are fully occupying one at a time - the other telecommunications companies will each require a utility pole of their own.
