🦠🔬MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION CELL 1. Study of living organisms - Biology. 2. ANTON VAN LEEUWENHOEK first saw and described a live cell. 3. ROBERT BROWN later discovered the nucleus. 4. Study which deals with CELL is known as "CYTOLOGY". 5. Cell is the fundamental structural and functional unit of all living organisms. 6. Matthias Schleiden & Schwann together formulated cell theory. 7. Cells have a thin outer layer which is today known as "PLASMA MEMBRANE". 8. CELL THEORY didn't explain how new cells are formed. 9. "RUDOLF VIRCHOW" first explained that cells divided and new cells are formed from pre-existing cells (OMNIS-CELLULA-E-CELLULA). 10. He modified the hypothesis of Schleiden and Schwann to give the cell theory a final Shape. Cell theory today is a) All living organisms are composed of cells and products of cells. b) All cells arise from pre-existing cells. 11. Cells that have membrane bound nuclei are called "Eukaryotic cells". 12. Cells that lack a membrane bound nucleus are called "Prokaryotic cells". 13. In both Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells, a semi-fluid matrix called "Cytoplasm" occupies the volume of the cell. 14. The Eukaryotic cells have other membrane bound distinct structures "ORGANELLS" like Endoplasmic Reticulum, the golgi complex, lysosomes, mitochondria, micro bodies and vacuoles. 15. RIBOSOMES are non-membrane bound organells found in all cells - Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic cells. 16. Ribosomes also found in Chloroplasts (in plants),mitochondria and on rough ER. 17. Animal Cells contain another non-membrane bound organelle called "CENTRIOLE" which helps in Cell Division. 18. Mycoplasmas, the smallest cells. 19.
