(1927) METROPOLIS This is the legendary German silent movie by Fritz Lang. While technically not Pre-Code Hollywood, the censors did a fine job of butchering the original print... so here it is in as full a version as we now have today. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0017136/

Trigger A wealthy but neurotic Southern belle finds herself trapped in the hideout of a gang of vicious bootleggers. The gang's leader lusts after her, and is determined not to let anything stand in the way of his having her. Sadly, time has not been kind to this print, but I'm still glad I have it in my collection.

(1934) Cleopatra (Cecil B. DeMille) - Claudette Colbert... Cleopatra - Warren William... Julius Caesar - Henry Wilcoxon... Marc Antony The man-hungry Queen of Egypt leads Julius Caesar and Mark Antony astray, amid scenes of splendor... ...Cecil B. DeMille was notorious for his casting couch, and he prided himself in personally casting all the females in his movies - this was so common-knowledge that the phrase "I'm ready for my close-up Mr DeMille" became a euphemism for wanting to have sex. (immortalised as a line in the movie Sunset Boulevard)

(1933) King Kong - Fay Wray... Ann Darrow - Robert Armstrong... Carl Denham - Bruce Cabot... John Driscoll The all-time cult classic that needs no introduction, but here's a description anyway... Carl Denham needs to finish his movie and has the perfect location; Skull Island. But he still needs to find a leading lady. This 'soon-to-be-unfortunate' soul is Ann Darrow. No one knows what they will encounter on this island and why it is so mysterious, but once they reach it, they will soon find out. Living on this hidden island is a giant gorilla and this beast now has Ann in it's grasps. Carl and Ann's new love, Jack Driscoll must travel through the jungle looking for Kong and Ann, whilst avoiding all sorts of creatures and beasts. The scene where doomed crew members were eaten by giant insects was lost forever when it was removed by the censors, but as far as I'm aware, this version is as complete a version as is currently available.

(1933) Gold Diggers of 1933 - Joan Blondell... Carol King - Ginger Rogers... Fay Fortune - Ruby Keeler... Polly Parker - Aline MacMahon... Trixie Lorraine In this musical extravaganza, a wealthy composer rescues unemployed Broadway performers with a new play. This is the uncensored version with the complete version of the song & dance numbers included (the sequence of the dancers changing behind screens was originally removed by censors). The dialogue is also risque for the time, indicating the characters were used to having to put out to get work.

(1932) The Mummy - Boris Karloff... Imhotep - Zita Johann... Helen Grosvenor - David Manners... Frank Whemple A resurrected Egyptian mummy stalks a beautiful woman he believes to be the reincarnation of his lover and bride. This cult classic was genuinely creepy for its time and still maintains its atmosphere even to this day - and the Egyptian theme could be used to justify dressing the female lead in not very much for some scenes.

(1932) Call Her Savage - Clara Bow... Nasa Springer - Gilbert Roland... Moonglow - Thelma Todd... Sunny De Lane Sexy Texas gal storms her way through life, brawling and boozing until her luck runs out, forcing her to learn the errors of her ways.

(1932) A Farewell to Arms - Helen Hayes... Catherine - Gary Cooper... Frederic - Mary Philips... Ferguson An American ambulance driver and an English nurse fall in love in Italy during World War I.

(1931) Frankenstein - Boris Karloff... The Monster - Colin Clive... Henry Frankenstein - Mae Clarke... Elizabeth An obsessed scientist assembles a living being from parts of exhumed corpses.
