Your GPA Isn’t Everything for Tech Students
When I graduated with a perfect 4.0/4,0 GPA in Software Engineering, I thought it would be a big deal. But in reality, no one asked about my GPA when I looked for a job. Instead, it was recommendations and hands-on experience that got me hired.
Here’s what I wish I had known:
1. Build Real Skills Through ProjectsGood grades are nice, but hands-on projects show employers what you can actually do. Freelance, join open-source projects, or build your own—practical skills speak the loudest.
2. Create a Strong NetworkI got all my industry roles through recommendations. Connecting with people early, even while studying, can lead to real opportunities.
3. Try FreelancingFreelancing while studying not only builds your skills but also shows employers what you’re capable of. Being rated highly as a freelancer proves your value and reliability.
4. Focus on Learning, Not Just GradesA solid GPA is great, but real-world skills, projects, and connections are what make the biggest difference. What do you think? Did I miss any key tips for students aiming to succeed in tech? Adopted from Biniyam Gashaw @evolutionnext #Freelance #projectXperience #GPA #evonext
